Prince No. 5 most influential, MTV awards

*MTV celebrated its 25th anniversary this week with an in-house survey of the top 25 most influential pop stars. While philanthropist Bono of the rock band U2 was a no-brainer at No. 1, Michael Jackson earned second place, ahead of Madonna (No. 3), the late Kurt Cobain (No. 4) and Prince (No. 5). The top 15, in chronological order, features: Eminem, Kylie Minogue, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Beyonce Knowles, Robbie Williams, Pete Doherty, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears.

Interesting that both Eminem and Snoop are there, but Dr Dre (who launched both) isn't.

Bono is incredible,no doubt. However,I would think Michael would be #1 for all the spawns he created and the forays into lengthy videos. Then,I would think Prince would be #1 for the countless artists and songs that have used his ideas.I could see Madonna or Cobain as being #3.I do think Bowie and Hendrix should be up there,as well. All the wannabe guitar gods have Hendrix to thank amongst others and there would be no marilyn manson or NIN without Bowie.Even afi and other mascara acts owe thanks to Bowie and Alice Cooper, etc.
