When was Prince the most (for lack of a better term) normal?

Not counting until after the first few albums. The don't count. I mean after the whole Dirty Mind/Controversy/sexual/spiritual/androdgenous persona come into effect. When did Prince's public persona seem its most down to earth to you?

I really don't find him completely abnormal... lol He's no weirder than the rest of us, I guess. If I could choose a most normal period of time (before now) I'd say the mid eighties. Not sure why. I guess because everyone was pretty excessive then. hmmm

HE'S COMING AGAIN

His music isn't particularly weird or cutting edge, it's concise pop. His last tour was a fan pleasing set of hits. He appears on award shows, has even presented awards, also mainstream TV shows. His appearance is not very androgynous anymore, his hairstyle is fairly normal. He's back to his given name. He's not so overtly sexual or nasty, doesn't cuss. He's not half naked all the time or sticking his tongue out...

I can't really argue with the last 2 years or so but actually, it was the Emancipation era that made me think of the question. Prince was dressed a little more "normally" wearing pull over sweaters and such, married, expecting a child and even showed up on Oprah
lol

Snap

1996-1997 -- he was pretty down to earth and open to many ideas
2001 was a good year too

I thought of then, too, but his name kept that era out of the running for me. If not for that, he was very normal then.

I'm too young to have my fave singer turn into a boring old fart. It's one thing to age gracefully, ti's entirely another to make a person bored

Well, he's still about the most exciting performer out there, and his music is youthful & energetic. He's not a boring old fart, just not trying so hard to push boundaries.

Prince has never been considered "normal" by standard definitions. He is only more or less normal in terms of himself.

However its probably its most weird record (especially lyricwise), i was very surprised to see Prince wearing a green sweater on the cover of the Rainbow Children. As far as i can remember i have never seen him wearing a woolen sweater that looked so 'normal'.

I agree he's not in elderly flatulence territory yet, but there's nothing wrong with putting a little "wow" into your work either, no matter the age.

Prince, at this point, stands out not because he's truly superior, but because so much of the market is so stunningly inferior. A flower among shit is not gold yet.

today.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

I think Prince always has and always will stand out in most ways.

Sadly, the sheer fact that he's an instrumentalist makes him abnormal in today's music market confused
If you will, so will I

He may have lowered his standards just a bit, like a runner looking around and realizing that nobody is even close to him, why run so hard?
