prince should do a covers album..... sort of like what springsteen did or what eric clapton did on the robert johnson sessions
it would be cool 2 c him do a whole sly album or james brown album i would even take an album of him doing reinterpretations of some of his fav songs it would show a sign of maturity and might put a spark under him 2 make some grown folk music. minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

Prince needs go forward, not backwards, and not holding in a landing pattern. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

i agree with the "move 4ward" idea
and this would be a move 4ward he is entering his golden years what springsteen did on those segar sessions was amazing (imho) and clapton paying tribute 2 robert johnson was excellent (imho) it would b nice 2 c prince strip down and do something like that i'll even take an all acoustic joni tribute album my point is that i dont know if we will ever see prince strip down as an artist 100% the closest has been ona or the truth and some songs here and there with his recent projects,i feel that he is bordering rolling stones territory (selling the brand) this would open up an oppurtunity to explore new directions and creativity in a more mature focused manner if he did something like that,i am pretty sure the next cd would be out of this world minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

You can do both. Prince can put a "forward" twist on a cover. Check out "Just My Imagination" and "I Can't Make U Love Me" for instance. Prince can go forward as he goes backward...he's Prince. ~This brown experience made me the man that I was meant to be~

So if he did, and I'm not suggesting that he do... what would you recommend he cover????
I'd like to hear him do versions of: "People Get Ready" "Ball of Confusion" (with the Revolution) A Rolling Stones' medley of "Miss You," "Start Me Up," "Waiting on a Friend," and "Undercover of the Night" Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" Eric Burdon & The Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" Clapton's "Layla" J. Geils' "Centerfold" Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" and how about some stuff from that Purple Rain guy about 25 years ago?

if covers are for has beens, what does that make Prince for his covers on Emancipation and Rave? you may want to make sure your arguments exclude Prince fro the position you are attempting to criticize before you make them. this message brought to you by logic.

He should do covers of Fire, For The Love Of Money and Holy Ghost It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

maybe the term covers was a bad choice of words
if u read the reviews from clapton's johnson and springsteen's seegar sessions, the reviewers talk about a sense of enjoyment and energy that was lacking in those artists recent projects. it seemed that way because it was a labor of love. it is unlikely that prince will ever let his guard down with his own music his efforts have been over produced and flled with second guessing for example, with a james or sly album, those insecurities that have weighed him down since lovesexy might not be present he would be the raw, funny, and energetic prince we all wish would come back take a look at how much fun he has when he performs other people's songs in concert (like chaka's songs on bet, the covers on tamar's tour, pass the peas on the ona tour, just my imagination during the 87-88 aftershows). he could do it. im not saying dude should turn in2 rod stewart but this would be an oppurtunity 4 him 2 enter a new musical direction and pay homage 2 his heroes and be creative at the same time. minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

Prince's Next Album will be a disco Cover Album called "Thighs and Whispers". Reports say Prince has grown his hair out and dyed it blonde and he has requested the aid of his make up artist from back in the Lovesexy days. This is what the album cover shold look like:

Although a covers project might be interesting (if he chose the right artist), I wouldn't put this on my wishlist. The covers he has done haven't been that great:
Every Day Is A Winding Road -- Ugh Betcha By Golly Wow -- Maudlin drivel I Can't Make You Love Me -- A travesty What If God Was One of Us -- Why? In each case, Prince fan that I am, I felt he did not do anything new or better than the original and in most cases made the song worse than it was before. Live renditions, it's a little better. I liked his cover of Rollercoaster, Just My Imagination and a few others within the flow of a concert. But I got all the live covers I needed with the Larry Graham/Sly/Family Stone sections taking up way too much of his sets. There's plenty of his existing catalog for him to explore live and if I'm going to buy an album, I'd rather have cuts showing the artist he has become than a jukebox doing covers. I thought he had enough of that back in his teenage years playing BBQs and bar mitzvahs in Minny.....? I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

Releasing Betcha totally stalled Emancipation. The only decent cover that he's released is A Case of U. He should do more obscure stuff. He used to like more indie stuff like The Sundays, Cocteau Twins and Bjork. Now their songs would make more interesting covers. We've heard his James Brown impression a million times, why do an album of JB covers Green virgin teenager, or filthy rich yuppy. Pussy cat pussy cat, where for out thou puppy

jb was an example
we all know he owes a lot 2 jb,so i used him as an example like i said i am not suggesting a boring blah covers album like those songs we all know and wish he didnt remake i would like 2 know what made prince PRINCE. dude is not an original,he's a hybrid i am talking about a passionate labor of love one where he can totally immerse himself in these songs possibly bring life 2 songs that we may never heard b4 or know but w/a prince twist 2 it the end result would be a fresh appreciation 4 where he came from and where he is going apparently no one's hip 2 the 2 albums i am referring 2. i am even going 2 throw in def leppard's latest as another example. these projects are not lame arse covers. minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

Prince should do an album with Santana and David Gilmour. 3 contrasting musical styles but 1 hard core philosophy towards music. The sound explosion would B of multiple atomic bomb proportions, especially if the 3 backing bands merge 4 this project as well! Unfortunately I don't think Prince likes 2 collaborate as much as the other 2! But the 3 of them individually have definatelly released the the 3 standout albums of 2006!
