I think it's too late. Ben and Matt among others put a lot of work into this site. Can't ask them to reverse it all now... Just ignore what you don't want to read. A lot of the threads are just silly and are intended for fun. Others are disgusting and I just skip over them. I'm not going to let it ruin my day...

You can still just check out the news items if the forums bother you that much.

I agree with you fully Carrie, but the problem is that many of the threads and posts actually break one or more laws, that is why The Org is currently under investigation. There is a lot of racism and sexism going on, and it's against the law. There has also been other stuff, like people using other user's pictures - that is also illegal, unless u have that user's permission. That is why we want it to change, we are not saying that we cannot ignore it, we are saying that people express illegal opinions here and that needs to stop. That is all.

Aren't you guys being a little too dramatic? There is nothing wrong with the new Org.There are only a few truly offensive people starting the crazy threads, but it's not excessive. You don't have to click on those threads anyway.

If you don't like the discussions,START YOUR OWN INTERESTING THREADS! This site is what we make it.We all go off-topic sometimes and that's to be expected.Right now, there aren't that many things going on in Prince's career anyway.

Quit complaining, just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Since when was this America?!? For crying out loud, please don't tell me you think Prince.org has to do just with America - which in fact is one of the only western countries without genuine freedom of speech for that matter.

Anyway, I'm off to cook myself some peas.

Maybe you aren't aware of this, but it is illegal to speak out if what u say is racist, sexist or slanderous. Freedom of speech yes, but not if it breaks the law. Also, once again ( I do wish people would read what I write all the way through here), I am not talking about what I find offensive, I am talking about what civil rights organisations find offensive. I personally couldn't give a shit about what people say here as long as it doesn't hurt people on the other end, but it has, it does and it will. Now the Org has eyes on it and that is why this is brought up. Do learn what the topic is actually about and what is going on at the site before u dump on people please. And I would be much obliged if u refrained from cursing, there is no need for that. Use the time it took for u to write that word to take a couple deep breaths instead so that your post will come across as thought-provoking instead of less intelligent.

Much love,

actually, your right to say racist and sexist things is protected by the first amendment to the constitution.

"Amendment I - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

It IS against the law to physically harm someone for any reason, but saying that you don't like blacks, whites, Mexicans, Europeans, Asians, etc. is not against the law and any efforts to criminalize it would be against the constitution of the United States and would be overruled quickly in the Supreme Court.

There is a problem with slander and libel if you cause demonstrable and real harm to a person's ability to earn a living due to a damaged reputation. This is something that cannot be accomplished by insulting other org members. Prince or Larry Graham would also be hard-pressed to get any mileage out of a lawsuit against anyone as well, as they have not been injured, nor have thier livelihoods been impacted by the comments made.

People need to grow a little thicker skin and stop proliferating the ignorant, lawsuit-happy mindset.

Enough of that positivity fascism and the "illegal opinions" police.

Teacher, with all due respect, how many sites do you think would close if they really paid attention to racial or sexist slurs? Better ask how many would stay open. So to talk about it as if it were a big problem for the Org specifically is BS. These are issues that have been with the net since the advent of bulletin boards.

Political correctness is being used by people who paid no attention to it in the past and now that they've been hurt enough, suddenly it's a big deal. Like, someone called Oceana a biotch, but never mind she called him or her a sissy or a bad parent, etc. It's all so CONTRIVED, and yet people have taken O. under their wings as if she was this poor innocent creature. If she turns out to be a complainant or co-complainant, I sure hope they look at what she told people, because the girl has absolutely no business worrying about political correctness.

BTW, you know they'd be no chatroom if there was a zero tolerance for sexism, so why bother mentionning these things now? What amazes me is that you deny they bother you personally. You know that if these "illegal opinions" would be wiped off the face of the Org, it wouldn't be the same place you have enjoyed for years. Where did the tolerance go? Unfortunately, I think this all stems from a misguided desire to protect someone who did everything to become a target, including indulging in "illegal opinions" herself.

The empress had no clothes, you see..The only way to go was to delete her account early, but that somehow didn't happen. What did happen was that Ben approved the use of her picture by someone else. That was weird, and I never would have permitted it. Now I can only guess that it was simply fatigue.

Frankly, I think Ben et al. are quick to limit their responsibility in all of this, saying they have "real jobs", etc. Well, they also started a discussion board and included a button called "Report message to moderator". As I have said many times, any moron who had a look at the first version of the Org could foresee it wouldn't be a piece of cake to have forums. Why don't they just come out and admit they didn't know how to handle it? Cuz that's probably what happened. The answer was to simply delete the accounts of the real abusers after a warning or two. Instead they micromanaged threads like a doctor treating the symptoms instead of the cause, and exhausted themselves in the process. And the same time, one situation spiraled out of control. And here we are...but for how long?

Starting own threads perhaps...? You can do that on AMP.

- Yeah, but the AMP people seem to be more mature

yeah they SEEM to be. a lot of those people came here posting when the new org showed up, everybody liked it, and surely some amp folks were a bit jealous at such a great looking site with many more cool features than that old amp. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them have tried to mess things up in here.

There IS a user agreement for Prince.org which clearly states that your freedom of speech is limited... just like it is in the 'real world'.

Pure racist and sexist expression and other forms of discriminatory expressions are in essence in contradiction with principles of equality and thus form a limitation of freedom of speech. "Freedom" does not mean complete freedom. You can't run around this site spewing out very objectionable stuff and expect nobody to make a problem out of it. Just like you can't do that in a bar or on the street in the 'real world'. You ask for troubkle, you will get it.

freedom of speech is not unlimited and people should err on the safe side of the law, instead of constantly trying to stir others up with their "freedom"...

of course you are "free" to piss off people, but you are not completely free to run around and constantly insult, harm or otherweise impair people of different race, background whatever.

there comes a moment when a legal line is crossed, even in America. This line may not be crossed as quickly in the USA as in other countries, but there is such a line.

and I am not saying it is crossed right now, just that people are pushing limits here.

Yes, but the people who complain about these abuses turn a blind eye when it's their friends who are being abusive. They do all of this very sincerely, so I don't have any ill feelings toward them, but still, it must be said. I defy you to spend about two hours in the chatroom and call on everyone who makes a sexist comment, and see what happens... In other words, it's VERY selective, and if the TOS would be applied strictly, there would be like 100 people on this site, and not at any given time...

If people turn a blind eye to abuse by their "friends" then their complaints indeed become less justified and reasonable. It would be nice to know tho'... when, how and by who this happens/has happened, so a consideration about it can be made.

The TOS does not have to be applied strictly, because like you already indicated, that would be nearly impossible... but it can serve both as an indicator of what conduct is permissible and what is not..., as serve as a legal safeguard against excessive and repeating violations of standards of reasonable conduct and expression towards one another (those standards are laid down in the TOS).
