"In a large room with no light" appreciation thread!!! I am officially in love with this song. I've been playing it over and over and over. It sounds like some outer space mambo funk. Don't act like i'm the only one who loves this song... Lance is SO a bottom

I think it's okay. There are dozens and dozens of better outtakes IMO. But i know i'm in the minority here. You guys on this website seem to rate it very highly indeed. But Marge! What if we chose the wrong religion? Each week we just make God madder and madder.

Great song, and I still hope one day to see several tracks from this time period on an official release. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I love the creative melody and chord progression. It reminds me of something Stevie would do. [Edited 7/19/06 9:36am] Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

I havent heard it - what is this song - why have I not heard it - where can I get it - what album is it off - HELP ME!!!!! It is an UNRELEASED song, so it isn't on any official albums. It is floating around amongst collectors, and has been featured on bootlegs. Since it IS an unreleased track, we cannot help you find it (site rules forbid it, sorry). Hopefully, this (and other tracks from this era) will one day see the light of day. One of his better songs IMO. I'd love to hear a cleaner more polished version though. I love the sound from that period. That's when he was TRULY ahead of everyone else out there. I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

The lyrics? A-FUCKING-MAZING! The song? Merely average. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I've also heard it called Welcome 2 the Rat Race. Which is the correct title?
The opening line really sets the mood... Lana drew a picture at school today, one that made her mother cry. A picture of a woman with a dick in her hand standing next to a child with no eyes. Then there's... Daddy dropped a dime on his girlfriend said he didn't want to go to jail alone. I was like WTF? Prince was really being "creative" with that one, but I do enjoy this song. Wish there was an official release/better quality version of it. I love singing the chorus. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

If you can't disclose any information regarding where someone can obtained the song, then how can there be an appreciation thread? In others words, the thread is meant for those who have bootleg copies. Ridiculous!

Look, i'm sure u r aware of the illegal methods of obtaining music. It's clearly not necessary to state them on here @ the risk of having the site closed down. Use ur own initiative!

The correct title is "In A Large Room With No Light" (as confirmed by Prince himself when he mentioned it's probable inclusion on the aborted "Roadhouse Garden" album) and that lyric isn't "A picture of a woman with a dick in her hand" it's "A picture of a woman with a drink in her hands"

That's not the point. What's the purpose of prohibiting comments regarding methods of obtaining music, when the site indirectly encourages fans to seek illegal bootlegs and allows the business to continue? Either allow all comments to be posted or prohibited all comments. Honestly, how many of you have sought after illegal recordings as a result of comments posted on a Prince fan site?

Either allow all comments to be posted or prohibited all comments. Honestly, how many of you have sought after illegal recordings as a result of comments posted on a Prince fan site? That isn't quite the same. If somebody feels compelled to illegally obtain music as a result of these forums, that is their personal choice. To use an example, a TV station can broadcast a documantary about drugs and their effects without having to supply a comprehensive list of local dealers to obtain them. Even if it does inspire somebody to want to obtain some. The same model applies here. If u spent half the time you have spent complaining on looking in the OBVIOUS places for this song, you would certainly be listening to it now. I had no trouble finding it. Good luck in your search. It is a great track!
