The Truth

I wanna gauge where orgers stand on this album.

How does it rate in his body of work, and what do you personally feel about the album?

What's your favourite song on The Truth?

What songs do you dislike?

What about the production?

Lyrics?

I remain convinced that if Prince had released this on it's own, with some promotion and a small acoustic tour, that it would have gotten a lot of attention. Instead, it went relatively unnoticed as an unlikely inclusion on the Crystal Ball set.
Still, great songs. Especially, "Don't Play Me", "Man in a Uniform" and "The Other Side of the Pillow".
Cool stuff indeed!
If it breaks when it bends, you better not put it in.

Didn't Prince say that he was going to re-release The Truth with a new song or something this year? It was either 2000 or 2001 but I remember him saying something to that effect.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

The song "Comeback"
just wish it was longer neutral

walking up the stairs just late afternoon...
a sweet wind blew not a moment too soon...
then i cried when i realized that sweet wind was u...
spirits come and spirits go
some stick around for the aftershow
I dont need to say I miss u
cuz I think u already know
If u ever loose someone dear to u never say the words thier gone
they'll come back...

and

"The Truth"

what if half the things ever said turned out to b a lie
how will u know the truth

If u were ginven all the answers and u stopped to wonder Y
how would u know the truth

everybody got a right to love
everybody got a right to lie

the choice u make it aint no peice of cake

it aint no mother duckin peice of pie

if times only reason
is to give us all something to feel
and if so yall...the end of the journay is so clear

the ? is
what did u stand for

the ? is
who did u save

when it gets right down to it

wait a min

when it gets right down to the nitty of the gritty
when it gets right down to it
u took more then u gave

everybodys got a right to love...
everybodys got a right to lie
but the choice u make it aint no peice of cake it aint no motherduckin motherduckin peice of PIEeee

gotta tell the truth yall...gotta tell the truth

if just one day... everybody tell the truth... we'd all trade bankaccounts and move to Neptune
peace heart
P luv

The Truth was great, but Animal Kingdom may be the worst song ever written in the history of music (This side of Wedding Feast).

I'd put The Truth within his top 6 albums of his entire catalogue.

"Dionne" should have been a single, it's a wonderful song, promo + a cool video = a hit. I think that not releasing this album in a "commercial" way, was another mistake by Prince.

I really love this album. IMO it definitely rates among the top ten of Princes'work.
My favorite song on this cd is "The Truth". I like all of the cuts, even "Animal Kingdom".
The production is tight...the lyrics are both clever and honest, especially on "Don't Play Me".

The general feeling about this album is that it's something of an underrated masterpice (I, for one, agree with that statement)

Why is it, then, that UPTOWN magazine's own review of "The Truth" CD was so scathing? "This album finds Prince considerably toned-down"..."boring" was their verdict!
(another case of Per Nilsen in serious need to clean out his ears...)

Mind you, this was around the time of the lawsuit from Prince, threatening to close UPTOWN down.

So, was UPTOWN's negative review of "The Truth" CD just a case of sour grapes?

"The Truth" CD was "boring".

Because Per Nilsen said so...

I really had to struggle with 'Man In A Uniform', but I ended up really feeling it in the end.

Was "The Truth" really "boring"??? Man, try to get your head around THAT one... There really is no pleasing some people...
