Prince, Still A Thrill?

Anybody remember Jody Watley? She had a mega huge album in the 80's produced by Prince's former band memeber and friend Andre Symone. Its actually an incredibly funky pop record and Jody was deserving of the chart dominance she enjoyed at that time.

Anyway the album was very funky and diverse and everysong was great. The you run across this little gem called "Still A Thrill" the song has Prince written all over it. Especially the funk guitar solo at the end.

So my question is did Prince write and produce this song. It sounds like him and the song sounds like nothing else on the entire record. Anyway I just thought I would ask. I am sure someone on here knows for sure.

I LOVE JODY WATLEY!!

Yes, "Still a Thrill" sounds Princey. I dunno the answer, though.

I am going to see the Shalamar reunion in a couple of weeks. I know Howard Hewitt and Jeffery Daniels will be there, I hope Howard and Jody buried the hatchet so she will show up!

I love this song!! But I also know without a doubt that this song was NOT written by Prince, because I once asked the same question myself.

Word! Okay but damn that sounds like him especially that guitar solo and its such a departure from the rest of the CD. I just bought it on itunes as a matter of fact. Thanks for letting me know.

Here's an interesting place to interject a discussion of the funk stylings of Andre Cymone. The brotha probably deserves as much of the credit for the MPLS sound as Prince.

Dre's so bad, he ghosted a lot of the instrumentation on Prince's early albums -- without receiving credit for it.

A lot of Dre's sound on Prince's and the Time's stuff, from what I understand, gets passed off as Prince's session work.

About a year ago, someone posted an interview with Dre where he stated the same and provided details -- something I'm short on right now.

I really like Jody's recent cover of Madonna's 'Borderline' - it's a great interpretation.

I am willing to bet that this is pure Andre. No Prince involvement. Andre had his own sound and ideas, that were probably overshadowed by Prince. The rest of her album doesn't sound like still a thrill...purposefully so. But I think this track is leftovers of that sound.

The reason it sounds like "prince" is because it was produced by David Z, I believe? David Z and Andre, if I'm wrong about DAvid Z someone correct me.

Come with it, Thread! Granted, P put MPLS on the map, BUT, he was far from doing it alone and he hasn't broke his neck on setting the record straight either. Andre showed P a few things. P just embellished it.

Andre and David Z were putting the Jody Watley album together
at Sunset Sound at the same time Prince was finishing up Parade there.
I am more than sure that they bumped into each other in the halls of Sunset Sound-
it is a really small studio...
I do know that Jody and Andre hung out a bit with Prince in studio B at this time.not positive if Prince played on her album though.

cool I like Jody Watley also. Was a big fan of hers & Shalamar. I have at least 5 cds she released including a Shalamar greatest hits. When i first heard "Still A Thrill" i did think Prince had some kind of involvement with it too. That song does have a Prince vibe in it.
