this is one of the most annoying features of Prince's music
it's kinda hard for the listener to take ownership to a song that's about someone else

on the contrary, it confirms his allegations that "intellectual property" should belong to the one who creates it. i think it's only fitting that an artist who fights to maintain ownership of his material, personalizes his work. otherwise it would be like buying personalized liscensed plates with your name on them only to put them on your neighbors car it would make no sense whatsoever. Also writing personal material is a good way to keep others trying to cover your songs and I think thats brilliant.
