Aerogram.

I don't think from your response that you understand the Gospel.
Everyone is guilty of sin. That much is true.
However, the Blood of the Lamb covers ALL of it for those who live by Grace through Faith. Paul calls himself many times in his epistles "The greatest sinner of all."
"If you abide in my Word, then you are truly disciples of mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." John 8:31

My response was taken from a site that parodies those who claim to take the bible literally, as is in its entirety. Most christians I know do not have that approach and their views of damnation make more sense, though I remain a practising atheist.

"Now they say that hell is a place where memory's dead, and the only thing left is this moment moving further away..." (M. Gira, Song for the Sun).

Christ, I just can't stop quoting this guy!

Seriously, there is no evidence that a place called hell exists that wasn't created by humans (hold of a slave ship; Auschwitz, etc.). I do wonder what the future may hold though. I think it's possible that in a thousand or a million years technology will be so unimaginably powerful that all realities will be 'creatable'. We might be able to backwards engineer history and send evil doers into our own synthetic "hell". Perhaps an 'evil' character will take over this technology and send the whole of creation into a black hole of ever lasting pain and torture. I doubt it though smile

I have a question for the Atheists... what makes you NOT believe in God?

Is it because ppl try to *force* it upon you and you're being rebellious?

It doesnt make sense?

There is no scientific proof? (i agree with that one, but i also believe in God wink

Someone please enlighten me as to how each of you came to your conclusion. I would be very intrigued and much enlightened by your experience..

everyone except UBE please.

It is not revolutionary or original thought... I agree with Bertrand Russell in most cases...

The philosophers that have influenced my thoughts are:

David Hume
Bertrand Russell
Jean Paul Sartre
Soren Kierkegaard
Frederich Nietzsche
Georges Santayana
Walter Kaufmann
Sigmund Freud
Xenophanes
Marquis De Sade

Hell, there are too many to list...

My thoughts on the matter can be found in the writings of the above-mentioned people. If I wanted to actually write an explanation of my thoughts on the matter, it would take quite some time and would bore 99.995% of everyone on here, as I would be discussing my rejection of metaphysics and universal forms, my repudiation of the argument of design, first cause, perfection and anthropomorphic dieties. I would go on and on and people would stop reading and my time would be wasted...

My idea of "hell:" A place where you are surrounded by religious lunatics! Wait a minute, does that mean I'll actually be going to "heaven?"

And once again, I reject the term atheist. It's a negative term devised by self-righteous religious people to describe others who have no need for their superstitions.
