Is it me, but is Prince producing / releasing much less music nowadays?

Recently i was thinking that it seems like Prince is releasing far less music in the last 3 - 4 years or so, compared to the nineties, and especially the nineties.

I mean, he released NEWS, Musicology and 3121, and apart from his work for Tamars CD (still to be released) no production or writingwork for other protegees or other artists. And apart from the few exclusive tracks he released on NPGMC, there isnt much new material leaking out on bootlegs also.

It gives me the idea Prince is actually writing and recording less material then in the past. I mean: compare it to the 1985 - 1986 period: he released ATWIAD, worked on Sheila E's record, on the Family CD, he recorded material for Parade, did work on the UTCM movie, wrote a hit for the Bangles (Manic Monday) and quite a lot of other songs for protegees and non-protegees, apart from that there is a lot of bootlegged material that never officially appeared.

Prince often claimed he is addicted to (making) music, and looking at all the outtakes and remixes that are circulating aroud fans, his 'addiction' did translate in probably the biggest song catalogue of any popular artist living.

I really have the idea the last years Prince is writing and recording less songs and producing less music. My questions: is he less interested in making
music nowadays? why? Or maybe the guy is just fooling us, and he has recorded hundreds of songs that went straight to the vault?

Any of you have idea's about this?

I hope that isnt the cause, I mean, the material he released earlier did reflect were he was a person / musician around that time. I am sure not looking for a Kirky J-like or 3121-sounding like recreation of songs as Around the World in a day, I wonder U or Play in the Sunshine for example, they could theoretically be better, but i doubt it, i think you shouldnt mess with earlier creations that much (apart from changing them for live-renditions).

The answer is not exactly cut and dried.

His most prolific period bet 84 - 88 is pretty much done. I doubt that the out put is like it was back then. Since then it has slowed down a bit. It's hard to really know as not a lot of news or leaks come out from his camp anymore.

He is still prolific compared to many other artists. Since the year 2000, We got

Rainbow Children
Xpectation (Internet Release)
NEWS
Musicology
3121
Slaughterhouse (Internet Release)
Chocolate Invasion (Internet Release)
ONA - Piano Album

And about roughly 15 other "internet only" songs like Magnificent and other ones that didn't make it on anything else.

all work and no play makes prince a dull boy.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Depending on what the material in the vault projects may be causing him a little more work. Now that he's religious his focus and musical lyrics seem to be changing ...OR

Maybe his focus is in promoting Tamar's career ... OR

He realizes for sure that he is 48 and doesn't need to pressure himself to please as much anymore. He's attain success already. What more could the man want?

Also ONA Live, C-Note, and the Ahdio shows.

Plus all the DVDs (okay, he was only involved with one). Not too bad for a six year period.
U been bamboozled, hoodwinked, took.

it is most probably that he is tighter when it comes to his music, he probably doesnt give cassettes and stuff out to friends anymore to elude bootlegging and non profit circulation which he actively dispises....
