The 'Purple Rain' Extra Verse...

For those of you that have heard the extra lyrics from the original '83 First Avenue performance...Do you think it would have worked better for the song had it stayed? Or do you think it would have lessened the significance of the song? Personally, I love the extra verse, it may not add a lot lyric wise, but I still enjoy it...For those of you lost in the dark, here is the lyrics to the removed 3rd verse...

"Honey I don't want your money, no, no.
I don't even think I want your love.
If I wanted either one I would take your money and,
I want the heavy stuff."

After dedicating the song to his dad in the movie, i dont think the verse would have worked as well.
It is great to hear it on First Avenue 83 though nod
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Prince was right to edit it out. The extra verse doesn't really fit with the
mood and sentiment of the rest of the song. Plus it sounds quite improvised
and lacks structure and flow. It's interesting to hear, but the song is much
better off without it. Same goes for the tightening up of the guitar solo at
the end. It's a prime example of how editing can actually improve a song.

If Prince decided 2 remove it,it's obviously better off without it.
