help me - a cd of prince instrumentals he released about two years a go does anybody remember this? i don't know if it was a cd or a software program or something else but i remember he had this thing you could buy where you could take his instrumentals and take out the drum beats, or put in the horns, etc...
i remember that on the npgmusicclub site he had it on the site for a little while but then he took it away (it was in the musicology section) the reason why i'm posting this is because i want to find this cd or whatever it is and buy it. can anyone help me out? i've looked on the internet before and could not find it.

Prince made available samples for download from the NPGMC site for people to put together a song in a competition.
It wasn't a CD - you simply downloaded the snippets from the club site. The samples were all from what turned out to be 'Musicology'. . [Edited 7/22/06 11:18am] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

[Edited 7/22/06 11:18am] i never heard about this but i know it wasn't the samples from musicology. i remember one of the songs on the site was off of "chaos and disorder." if you went in the musicology room you could play around with it on the mixer board. you could take out the instruments, adjust their volume, etc... he came out with something like this where you could do this to previous tunes - not musicology.

From memory it included 'Let's Work' and a version of 'Endorphinmachine' entitled something like 'Rock Machine'. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

What you're talking about was the Interactive Mixer that was running in the
"Musicology Control Room" in 2003 at the NPG Music Club. It was never available to download, but you could choose between 3 songs where you could remove and add various tracks while it played live on a loop. All the loops were taken from the re-recorded versions of the songs in question. The 3 tracks you could have fun mixing were... 1. Rock Machine (Endorphinmachine) 2. Let's Work 3. Dance On There was also a secret 4th track available for a very short time... 4. Party Movin' (Musicology) The samples for this were later made available to download so members could make their own song out of them (this was well before Musicology had been released or even heard). The best fan mixes were then made available to download through the club (for free).
