under the cherry moon vs. purple rain.

ok, be honest.. who liked under the cherry moon better than purple rain?
I've been a prince fan since the early 80's and i know purple rain made him the pop icon that he is, but I truly love under the cherry moon over purple rain. The music, the black & white cinematography, EVERYTHING.

Please tell me i'm not the only one.....

Liking a movie has nothing to do whether it's a good movie or not.

For example. I happen to LOVE Pootie Tang. I also happen to know it's a horrible movie. nod lol

Purple Rain is the better movie but there's no shame in preferring UTCM.

wave You're not. I loved everything about UTCM. UTCM is more upbeat. PR has a darkness to it. I guess it's the two sides of Prince's personality.

Preferrably, I like the upbeat and comical side of Prince. With the exception of the awesome music and some interesting scenes, Prince's character in PR was depressing.

Purple Rain. No contest. The best thing about Purple Rain is that the dialogue stays short and sweet. It's all focused on the music. Prince only plays a little piano in Under The Cherry Moon, that's all. It takes a lot of nerve to set a movie on the French Riviera and then shoot it in black and white. And Prince has a lot of nerve. But, you may dare ask, can Prince act? Nope. Quick, someone get the hook and jerk this guy so far off screen he winds up back in his old Minneapolis neighborhood and give him his guitar! If you make it to the end-there's a video for "Mountains". It's more exciting than anything in the movie. Another thing that makes Purple Rain great is the fact that nearly all in Purple Rain are, in many instances, simply playing themselves and use their real names since there not really actors. Billy Sparks is indeed Billy Sparks. Morris almost steals the movie, as himself--short on morals and long on ego. In the "What's the password" scene he's at his best. Prince does what he does best in Purple Rain. He's quick and deadly with his guitar.

NO! I love watching Under the Cherry Moon more than Purple Rain. It makes me laugh. I love its upbeat nature. Purple Rain was darker.

In the end, Under the Cherry Moon over Purple Rain but one is a romantic comedy the other is a drama. Depends on what you like better.

Yes! I love 'Glitter' but I know Mariah honestly deserves a spit on the face 4 that. The album is MC's best - 2 me - though. So I feel ya, and I've never seen the movie but if we're talking about music, Purple Rain is the first Prince album I ever heard and no, I do not like Under The Cherry Moon better than IT.

I like the music of Parade better than Purple Rain, and as a film I like UTCM more: the whole French setting and all and it was so cool to watch Prince's 'funny' side. But the performance of The Beautiful ones alone makes Purple Rain my fav.

The actor that had it THE easier was Brown Mark. He didn't say a damn thing!

Purple Rain has dark moments. Purple Rain is not all dark. Morris is the lighter side. Morris is hilarious- uncensored, political incorrect, pimped out and sleezy in Purple Rain. "I want the bitches to come to me, I'm the only star in this town."
Goodnight, sweet Prince.
