I have played it to TWO non-Prince fans who BOTH preferred it to Purple Rain.

UTCM is definately only for Prince fans, I reckon. And it's a good thing that the gritty urban reality was carried through to its masterful sequel, Graffiti Bridge No, the whole Graffiti Bridge storyline and look is very dream-like surreal. No gritty urban reality there like Purple Rain. Graffiti Bridge is more like a bad dream the Kid had, then a sequel to Purple Rain. The music is so weak. Prince never rocks the guitar in Graffiti Bridge. The Time are nothing more then generic "bad guys" in Graffiti Bridge. Script writer/director Prince gives Morris no funny dialogue and moments like the "What's the password" scene in Purple Rain. Also Graffiti Bridge was filmed almost entirely on a little set built at Paisley Park, not on the streets of Minneapolis and LA in the real world like Purple Rain. "Man, this is embarrassing," Levi says at one point. Man, it sure is. [Edited 7/21/06 1:46am] Goodnight, sweet Prince.
