Eric Leeds. All the way.

That man's phrasing is so crazy, so acrobatic, so demented at times... Gosh, I just love when Eric is playing on a Prince project. He just plays better. I have his solo albums, I know how talented he is as an instrumentalist and writer. Be that as it may, he shines when working with Prince.

Maceo's gonna be funky no matter where he's playing. And, Prince obviously idolizes Maceo and his place in music history. No problem.

But, I think Eric is Prince's best sax player. His musical center of gravity complements Prince's incomparably.

One of my favorite Eric Leed performance is the segue between Jack U Off and Sister during the Lovesexy tour! He was GREAT!

Prince+Eric Leeds=Bliss oh and did i forget to mention Atlanta Bliss? The horns on Adore are breathtakingly beautiful! Of course Maceo is the master, but I loved Eric and Atlanta playing together behind P. The horns on Rock Hard In A Funky Place are crazee!

I agree with some of you here: Maceo is great when delivering those typical funky horn riffs, but as a soloist i much more prefer Eric. He has some freakieness in his playing, almost a kind of an 'punk' attitude when playing his solo's, especially when he is playing for Prince. A very personal, original approach when it comes to his playing: not necessarily jazzy, or funky, or poppy, its HIS style.

By the way, the funny thing about Eric is when you see him, you think: that guy looks like a math or chemistry teacher, but when he starts to play that sax, you know: a persons looks tells nothing about the inside.

Totally Agree Eric is the best sax player Prince has ever worked with. You can tell he's been schooled in jazz but he can funk with the best of 'em! nod
