When Will He Be Paid...?

Not a question of money, just recognition and respect. Surely no one would disagree with the fact that he's one of, if not the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T.) big grin

When will he be appreciated for the music he writes/has written. Take TRC for example; the album was pure, musical genius, but never caught the commercial eye, due to strong religious undertones, and perhaps a beef with one of the biggest media companies in the world (WB). Should that take away from the music, we're in a time where the actual music seems to be secondary. I admit, he says some pretty touchy things, but there are 'Artists' whom are Aetheist, Satan Worshippers etc. who say muuuch worst!

Eminem for example: they say he's the 'Elvis' of our time or Rap Music. I admit with Dr. Dre's irresistable head-bangin beats, and Marshall's lyrical flow, I catch myself bobbing my head to someone who's talking about, murdering their wife, hating their mother, and who's extremely Homophobic. Yet I still have respect the music, and his abilities as rapper eventhough, I do not agree with some of the things that he says.

Eminem (Marshall Mathers/Slim Shady) continues to be very successful, as well as artists such as Marilyn Manson, Cash Money Millionaires, (I'm sorry Billionaires rolleyes )and other groups whom music has a somewhat negative message.

Prince's lyrics are Sesame Street compared to most popular music now a days. Seems ironic to me, seems that someone's out to get him. All music is controversial these days, controversey sells, (as proven in 1981-82)wink

I don't really know how to interpret what's going on modern music, I guess I'm gettin' old. I remember back to my Freshman year, when I was eventually ordered out of the music program in school, simply because I wanted a more broad selection of music to play. We only played Classical/Classical Jazz music, not many tunes written by Black artist. I grew frustrated and improvised 'literally'! Every solo I had, I included as much R&B, Soul, Jazz I could fit into |---8---| (8 measures).

Music and "it's industry" needs a makeover.

Seriously who cares if Prince gets recognition or makes a lot of money?

Prince makes music and either you like it or you don't and it's as simple as that.

You're absolutely right, but being in a position where you've contributed soo much, and get little recognition for it. I can relate that's all. Being a dedicated employee, student, being a minority in this country. You can feel underappreciated that's all.

But I agree, if you don't care, that's good for you, but that's not the case for everyone.

His time will come. It might be when he's gone though, who knows.

Unfortunately, some of Prince's actions (sometimes INactions) have rendered him shooting himself in the foot. Some of his non-recognition status is self-inflicted. Prince's career is a roller coaster, with peaks, valleys and complications, if you ask me. For me to explain it all would take time and energy I don't have right now. For one, he needs a manager, and he needs to TRUST that manager.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I believe Prince will not be getting the recognition he truly deserves for his musical contribution to the world, sadly, until after he is dead.

Sorta like Van Gogh, in fact...
