I thouroughly enjoyed the story and the guy is a great storyteller. However, I must say that I could see how Prince would possibly be irritated by this guy, we only got one side of the story, Smith has got that white irreverence and sarcasm that just rubs us folks of color wrong. .

Yes I can see what you are saying...plus Smith seems to be more crass and blunt and I just don't think that is Prince's sense of humor so I can see how their personalities could clash. Some people for whatever reason seem to offend eachother's sensabilities and people do interact with diffrent people in different ways.

Their personalities were bound to clash, it is Prince's fault for choosing Kevin to come and shoot this 'documentary'. From what Kevin says, it seems the only film of his Prince had seen was 'Dogma' and Prince must have seen something in that which matched his philosophy on religion or something and led him to believe that Kevin was a 'kindred spirit'. In which case he was pretty foolish not to check out Kevin's other films such as Clerks, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy which are basically about slackers into comics! Because what on earth would lead Prince to believe this type of film maker would make a good documentary director? Without even meeting him first? It's a pretty insane decision on Prince's part to begin with.

I found this to be a touch mean spirited but cool just the same. It sheds light into why that little pairing didn't workout. One thing I will remind people to be mindful of is that this is just one side of the story...
You really have to watch the entire "Evening With Kevin Smith" to understand the liberties he takes. To only watch this one bit, out of context, it may seem mean spirited, but it's not...he's the same with everyone in his stories.

I agree, I agree and please don't get me wrong I find it completely fascinating on so many levels. I have spread this video around so much its not even funny. I was more or less reacting to all the short jokes.

But Smith is a great story teller and this is a great story. Even the most die hard fan (that's me) has to enjoy this first hand account of their collaboration.

Peace

lol Totally agree! I think if Prince would have seen Clerks or Mallrats in addition to Dogma I think he would have been appalled and would find it hard to even believe that Dogma and the other films were by the same guy. Smith and Prince are two entirely different people with two entirely different backgrounds.
