I've been around since 1979 but I would not want to be considered a fam. A fam thinks every single song Prince has ever recorded is absolutely great. They see Prince having no faults whatsoever, musically or personally. Another insult around here is the term, "purple kool-aid" drinker. Those are the ones so obsessed that they would drink poisoned kool-aid if Prince told them too.

Who called you a fam? Was it someone on the org or someone you talked with in person? Non-Prince fans usually don't know what a fam is.

Okay, the definition that Vainandy is using is the way it's popularly used among fans as a loving insult.

But it originated with Prince himself. He said he didn't like the word "fan" because it's short for fanatic. He said he prefers to think of his supporters as friends or family, or "fams" for short. I thought it was sweet and I still do. Even though I join in on the fam-teasing. I'm pretty famnatic myself.

when i'm going through a phase of listening to one artist all the time, i call it "famming out".
