by my count, his album releases (not including Hits/B-Sides, the Girl 6 Soundtrack, and the Very Best Of) have sold a shade over 41 million, based on the figures you presented.

So? Greatest Hits albums and compilations still count as albums, you know.

You can have those if Prince can have all the albums he's worked on as a group member - Madhouse, The Time, Sheila E., NPG, Vanity 6 etc.

The list includes all Michael's solo projects. If you want to include albums when he was in a band, then you might as well clump all of John, Paul, George and Ringo's solo efforts on top of the Beatles figure, or indeed any of the other artists in the list who broke off from a band and released solo albums.

Yes. But only NPG (which were Prince albums anyway) and Madhouse. Prince was a member of these 2 bands.

And yes, Paul McCartney's career albums sales are the highest of ANY artist, USA or Worldwide.

All I saying is if anyone is going to make a list of biggest career albums sales, they need to be more specific. As far as I'm concern, THAT list is a little off.

Prince doesn't sing lead vocals on 2 NPG albums (mostly), so could these be classified as Prince albums? Well yes, if you take into account the amount of involvement he's got in them. Similarly, Prince did all the music for a few of The Time, Shiela E and Vanity albums, so it would be unfair with that criteria not to include them as Prince albums. Prince was a 'silent' member of these bands, but a member nevertheless.

Be more specific in what way? That list is pretty specific, it counts all the cumulative gold and platinum reaching sales of albums attributed to that artist or band.

You'd obviously like MJ to be higher and therefore include albums done by the band he was a member of. But that goes against the criteria of this particular list. I've been arguing not that the gold/platinum awards are wrong, but that Prince's actual album sales are slightly higher due to 'inbetween' album sales together with the large number of albums he's put out, I'm sure the same is true to an extent with MJ. But this particular list is the figures (divisible by half millions!) supplied by the record companies themselves, and to that extent, you can't argue with it.

Sheesh, such combativeness.

I had originally talked out rough estimates of high 30's-low 40's for his album releases.

So what's the big deal?

No big deal, I just don't understand why you insisted on being dismissive of the greatest hits, etc. Collections like that are every bit as indicative of an artists popularity as original albums, wouldn't you say?

Because not including the greatest hits compilations gives you an equally telling indication that an artist can accrue an impressive number of record sales over the years without even counting the greatest hits compilations. That the artist is able to sell beyond what (s)he's "best known" for.

I'm not dismissive of GH compilations; I just wanted to isolate the album sales.

And we're not even counting singles sales, many of which were certified gold.

Paul, Michael, & Prince deserve a career album sale recount.

And BTW, all the sales of The Black Album should be accounted for.
