Let's Talk About the Prince Song, "God"

Do you like it or loathe it? I just listened to it again after not hearing it for a long period of time, and I must say, this is a great song (possibly one of the best songs that Prince has ever written). "God" has a beautiful piano, vocals and melody; I forgot what a great song it is. It's a straight up gospel song that showcases Prince's talent and sets him apart from the other musicians that are out there.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I've never heard it. I would like to some day.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

I mean, it would seem to an overly spiritual minded guy like myself that, spiritually speaking Prince peaked at Lovesexxy.

he then suffered several dispointing back slides and now the clift.

The version with vocals is a little "different" in my opinion. I don't have too much against it, but it could be a lot better especially coming from the "Purple Rain" era. The instrumental though, is a beatuiful piece of music if I've ever heard one wink.

Yeah, the music is very beautiful! Love the vocals too, even the way Prince screams in the song.

YES , i like the song. for that times it was different and very soulful meaning it sound as if he really put his whole hearted intentions into it. what i did not like at that time was that he said to dance the dance electric . . well i did not know what that was until i heard it on andre's album. now that i am all grown up and also heavily in volved in bibliotics i over look that part.

God is like a soul/ opera to me. i love the instrumental more

Not sure if I've ever heard the song "God" without the vocals, but I know it's circulating out there somewhere.

This song cracks me up. I sing it at work and get STARED at when I do that scream. Imagine seeing someone in the deli at the supermarket going "ooooouuuuuaaaaahhhhhuuuuuhhhaaaaahhhhh....GLOOP uh uuuuu.uh.oooowoo hooooohhhhhAAAAAHhhhhhLOOPmmhhuuh hhaauhuh...AAAAAHHHHHOW!" falloff falloff By the time he says "In the beginning.." i'm still in tears from that scream.

I don't like the instrumental that much. The vocal one makes me horny though.

The vocal version IS creepy sounding. He sounds insane. That's why I always liked it. And the "Purple Rain Love Theme" version is even better.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Never was particularly keen on the vocal version, very demo-y sounding and all
the weird screaming and yelping kinda seems at odds with the mood of the song.
The 8 minute instrumental version is much much better (it's a totally different
recording of the track, not just the same version without lyrics).

I really like this demo-'ysh' sound of it. First listening was kinda weird, but the weird songs of Prince are the songs I was always atracted to. (germish)
This is one of several cools songs which work best with headphones 'to be listened by maximum volume'. (Another: Subway song' by Cure..)

And it's always connectedwith/fadedinto 'Another lonely christmas' on my mixtapes.

I never heard the instrumental version, but would like to own it.
Someday.

I like the vocal version too. I don't tend to listen to the instrumental too often, even though it's fantastic too - but I love all the yelps, squeals and squawks of the vocal version.
