i guess know the routine but today i told someone that i liked Prince and they asked me if i was gay? i'm not gay and then they asked me if I liked Diamonds and Pearls because that was when they lost interest in Prince.....and she also asked me if he has put out anything since D&P!! she also told me be careful about telling people i like Prince because girls will think it is strange.....whatever.....

I never assume people even know who Prince is these days. Certainly D&P was his last big big hit, so it's not surprising that is their last memory, the albums after that sold relatively poorly and we heard him less and less on the radio. And it's not surprising that they think he's gay with all the make-up and types of clothes he has worn.

If he's still known at all, it is for his live performances. If you don't actively follow an artist you easily lose track. Hey, I appreciate Bob Dylan is a legend, but do I know what albums he's put out in the last 10 years? No. I actually enjoy the fact that people don't know what he's been upto, because it is they who are missing out, and it gives you a chance to supply them with some music and get a convert!

Some of my younger Soldiers look at me like I'm trapped in the '80s, but for the most part, a lot of folks I know get that wistful look remembering the last time they heard P and some of them actually hit me up for a compilation CD...one of them asked me if he could burn my P collection....

....but the best to me is how my 14 year old daughter went from giving me and my wife the blues behind listening to P to linking "Black Sweat" to her mySpace....and now she is plays some of the older stuff....

...bottom line, I gives a flying rat's ass what anyone thinks of my listening tastes.....my money, my car, my biz.....

That just goes to show how stupid people are these days. Even if Prince is gay, that doesn't mean you are because you listen to him. I don't remember people being that stupid in the 1980s. Boy George was a huge star and is definately gay. There have always been stupid people when it comes to music but I blame shit hop for breeding such mass stupidity.

Oh ya'll can forget trying to explain why you love Prince to someone who doesn't. The other day I was talking to my best friend, telling him about how deep Prince can be and how he subliminally gets his point across and what not, and he heard LoveSign somewhere and said

and I said:

I remember a silly friend of mine back in the early 90s saying she thought this guy was somewhat gay. I asked, "Why?", and she responded, "Because he likes Prince." Our friendship did not survive that instance of ignorance.

Try to catch me ridin' dirty.....I showed a picture of Prince to my students and they asked if he was a man or a woman. Yeah, I don't really listen to what people have to say.....but it makes me brag about him less.
