If you had to narrow it down, what's your favorite musical style by Prince?

A huge part of Prince's appeal to me is his ability to blend several musical styles into a song and create magic. Everything from pop, rock and roll, soul,R&B,sexy slow jams, inspirational gospel ballads...whatever, Prince made sound incredible. However, if you had to narrow it down to one specific genre, which style have you enjoyed the most.

I just might have to go with "electrofunk". It's(in my opinion) that robotic yet irresistible synth/linn drum machine(as well as often live drumming) formula that's used in such jams as Controversy,Sexuality, Extra Lovable, Nasty Girl, Drive Me Wild, Cool,Something in the Water,Lady Cab Driver,(original outtake version of)Feel U Up,(original outtake version of)Irresistible Bitch and a host of others.

Keep in mind, this is my opinion about what songs fall under that term and description so don't trip-ok?

What's your favorite style?

If I had to pick I would also say Electro-funk for the reasons you stated and ofcourse, R&B for those killa slow jams he did (Do Me Baby, Adore, Shhh, Insatiable, just to name a few). I don't want to leave Rock out. When I first got into Prince, I was strictly rap (wasn't called hip hop yet) and R&B. There was something incredibly appealing about When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy won me over.

His Original sound from the begining to ATWID. But I really enjoy his daliance with Jazz, especially the LIVE version of Strollin/U want me. Some of the tracks he's dumped on 3121 r so unPrince. yet some R so Prince it hurts! cool
Love & Respect him always!

Electrofunk here too... Actually electrofunkrock (when he adds the electric guitar to the mix... ladycabdriver, when doves cry, extraloveable, 777-9311)

I don't like the older style funk with the real horns... I like the real horns on ATWIAD, Parade and SOTT... but after that those horns just didn't work for me (the symbol album comes to mind here)...

Can this also be known as the Minneapolis Sound?

If not, then I like "electrofunk," the "Minneapolis sound," and the straight funk. cool

(some examples: A Love Bizarre, Purple Music, Erotic City, Mutiny, Forever in My Life live, I Wish U Heaven extended, The Black Album, Dirty Mind album, We Can Funk, America extended, the list goes on...)

headbang
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Oh Yes!! I was just listening to "Life Can Be So Nice", and truly a song you just cannot categorize into one style. There are so many things happening. Don't know what you would call it.
