I watched SOTT again last night..... ....and when listening to the title song - and how political the words are - it just seems so apt as to whats going on in the world today - it freaked me out a bit...
On a lighter note - the best part of this film has to be I Could never take the place of your man - closely followed by Its gonna be a beautiful night (hes having so much fun on them drums aint he?? I love it!!) 'Ive never been 1 2 hide my feelings, Baby, u blow my mind I painted your face upon my ceiling, I stare at it all the time...' http://www.myspace.com/welshmess

Yes a fantastic concert with amazing songs, but when i watched it recently i did feel the "acted" pieces in between hadn't dated so well. Could have done without those weird bits i think, especially the bit where Prince points to the ring in the window. WTF was that all about?! What does everyone else think? "Playing hard to get is getting hard to play".

Yeah - I agree - but maybe at the time it wouldn't have looked so cheesy 'Ive never been 1 2 hide my feelings, Baby, u blow my mind I painted your face upon my ceiling, I stare at it all the time...' http://www.myspace.com/welshmess

Definitely...at the time when i first saw it in 1988 i thought all those bits were cool. But then i thought everything he did was back then. "Playing hard to get is getting hard to play".

Now that you mention it, I always wondered what that was about myself!?

I liked all the acted interludes. I just put it down to the weird shit Prince does. Plus it gives it an 80's feel. It's like a time capsule now; a great, big, electric crystal ball that scares the shit out of me when it starts crackling at the beginning of the DVD.
The ring in the window is before "Forever in My Life" isn't it? I thought it just tied to the song...you know, wedding ring, love, forever in my life, etc. Favorite moments are "U Got the Look" and "Forever in My Life". And now, through the magic of DVD, I can easily select and play them again and again, ring in the window segue included. Yay! [Edited 7/17/06 4:55am] I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

Well,it's not like a Milli Vanilli situation Prince and his band are lip-syncing to a live recording that they really, truly made. They just couldn't use the original footage that they shot.

I kinda like those quirky bits. Just Prince being his usual, weird self - cute in small doses, which is thankfully what we got. But Marge! What if we chose the wrong religion? Each week we just make God madder and madder.

aww c'mon thats what makes it classic! "He wants to settle down. I wanna know why a wolf is dressed like a lamb." The acting isn't as much acting as it is narration. But yeah no one deserved an Oscar. As for it being filmed at Paisley, it doesn't bother me that much although like most live performances that aren't boots there are extensive overdubs.

I dig the furr coat he wears in the performances of "U Got the Look," and "If I Was Your Girlfriend."

[b]Not all of the SOTT movie was recorded at Paisley Park. I know for fact the added video for U GOT THE LOOK was at least partially shot in Paris, France in the early summer of 1987 because Sheena Easton spoke of making the trip to appear in the video.

I wish he'd done the same with the Las Vegas ONA - concert. The dude is just soo unprofessional sometimes.
