Any idea what Prince makes a $ year from people buying Past Albums? As I was buying 1999 today on CD that was put out back in 1982, I was thinking ole boy probably makes enough Worldwide of people buying and replacing CDs to just kick back.  I mean heres a career from '78-'06 and people across the World during a year or buying and/or replacing CDs. Any publication keep record of this sort of thing?? Or any idea what he averages a year from royalties off of this?? |

I buy my past cds at flea market for $8.00. And collecting vinyl costs me cheap.
I don't think Prince makes any money.

it is substantial --- at least to most of us PEE-ONs .... i remember an article in 1999 --- that said Prince will make in excess of $330,000 just off of the "playing" of the song "1999" ... can u imagine ???(my numbers may be low on that - alzheimers sets in ) | |

This is what I dont get about him.
He could be making his money with old releases but he still bothers to try to make money with new stuff. Better to concentrate on the actual music than marketing it. But I suppose its part of his quest to change thangs. | |

Prince could make a ton more royalty money if he sacrificed his integrity. He does not get enough credit for avoiding the ubiquious movie soundtrack, the cheesy television commercial and the compilation cd's that could get him millions. If I hear another great Marvin Gaye or James Brown song a bad movie plot device or in a hygiene product commercial I will vomit. Crass commercialization ruins great art. I also think it is why P's songs sound so fresh in concert. | |

are some of you really worried he's going to run out of money? you'd rather he concentrate on pimping his old shit, instead of making new, well, shit?
I love the fact that he's pumping out new stuff all the time, even if it's not always fantastic. Artists are supposed to make new art, not do Greatest Hits tours all the time | |
