Name 5 decisive influences on P. music

I mean the 5 artist/musicians that influenced P. music.

Stevie more than Sly?

James Brown in first place?

Michael Jackson?

Wait! That's 6 - so I guess I should add: the Beatles and the Stones (tho he'd deny it, now!), Curtis and Al Green.

Uh, I thought we were to only name the 5 "decisive". This list is accurate, but then again, this could easily be a list for most influencial artists ever...

If you're talking about from the very beginning of his career,I'd put Sly Stone in place of Larry. Otherwise, perfect list. Post stardom, Larry and George Clinton are right up there too.

I can't believe it took this long for someone to mention his dad. What about his jazz singing mother? Wendy came around way past his formative influences were already in place. Lisa is an interesting idea but I think they just had a musical bonding more than a specific influence.

James Brown and Joni cannot be left off the list.

P is such a musical sponge it is almost impossible to keep the list at 5. What about his new wave (Dirty Mind era Gang of Four), disco/Funk (Ohio Players, Rick James, George C) and jazz fusion (Weather Report) influences?
