I guess I am in the minority but I rented Purple Rain and Grafiti Bridge from netflix (5 weeks ago) and have been watching them.... well let's just say often, and I love them both. I mean I know everyone loves Purple Rain but I get the definate impression that few like Graffiti Bridge.

I've watched it before and when I viewed it again a few weeks ago I finally 'got it'.

It has a ctually helped me with some situations in my life.

Trying to make sense of that movie is just reaching for Prince's sake. Just because Prince tried to imply there was any real meaning to get out of it doesn't mean it will really make any sense. Just around the corner... If you watch the SOTT movie, you can get far more understanding from that without even trying. Graffiti Bridge was just for camp. If anyone can derive anything from it good for you but if you don't there's nothing wrong with you believe me. It isn't rocket science, its just a Prince camp movie. I think the movie was just a set up for him to sing Still Would Stand All Time in the end. Can you believe that the Kid won! And with a ballad! What an epiphany!

Purple Rain and Graffitti Bridge were Actually the same movie told from two diffrent prespectives. Purple Rain was the "real to life" outward perception while Graffitti Bridge was the inner spiritual perception.

Yeah, but if it's boring and makes you cringe and even dislike by association an album you previously liked, why look for more to "get"?

I "got it" when I saw it in 1990. It has a good message, and the musical sequences are nice, but that is about it. The acting and dialogue are just atrocious, making much of the film seem camp. Rather undercuts the message, IMHO.

i got it too...when it came out on dvd ...i watched it once ...saw that it still was the trash that had people laughing "during the serious parts" when i saw it in the theaters back in the day...and i tossed it in a bag full of stuff thats unimportant that went in my storage room !!

I honestly didn't think GB was that bad. I finally got around to seeing for the first time, and while it's nowhere near being a "good" film, it's infinitely more watchable than Under the Cherry Moon, which seemed to drag on forever.

Yeah, GB has a ton of embarrassingly bad moments, and you've got to love those soundstage sets, but it all adds up to give the movie a certain wacky charm, in my eyes.
