80's Ghetto blaster

That's what I love about that scene though. Every dressed like it's the 40s in this classy joint and he puts a big 80s ghetto blaster on top of the piano.

Hahah I know, it actually has no sort of specific time imprint on it, like Napolean Dynamite.

Someone on here said they distinctly remember seeing it on tv and the moon was red with everything else black and white... this is odd, because my mom SWEARS up and down that when SHE saw UTCM it was black and white except for splashes of pink and red throughout it.

There HAS to be a version like this - why would two people distinctly remember seeing the same thing?

I have seen this version, it does exist! Don't let someone (SlamGlam maybe?) try and talk you out of it just because they have never seen it. I saw it with my own eyes. And I am not imagining it like he refers to it as Biggs syndrome. Believe me, I'm the biggest Star Wars nut in the whole world and I know Biggs was never in it. Not until the special edition, anyways wink

I know this has been addressed until I am blue in the face, but the movie was shot in color, but it was lit for a black and white transfer. Certain lights and filters are used in Black and White movies to make the sky look darker, the plants stand out, etc. This is the way it was shot. It was NOT going to be a color movie. There is NO version that was considered for release that was color. Every, and I mean EVERY version that was created for edit (dated 2/28/86, 5/29/86 and at least two other screenings) were ALL edited and screened in black and white. I can't make this any more plain, the is NO color version and there won't be one released EVER.

That said, there were additional scenes and extended scenes that were cut out, but that is a subject for another day.

breath, I have to remember to breath! whewwwww....
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Then why do three people remember seeing it in black and white with pink and red digitally added in?

I remember distinctly as a child seeing this movie on HBO (way before I got into Prince) sometime in the late 80s that had a scene in B&W with Prince talking with Kirsten Scott Thomas and they both look up at the moon, and it's red (cherry). The only trace of color in the whole movie. Is this a deleted scene, or what? This has driven me crazy for years. Can someone please enlighten me?

no you don't. maybe it was a dream but you did not see it on HBO or in the real world. the scene doesn't exist. may have been a promo still.

that is what i call Biggs syndrome.. where people say "oh when i saw star wars it had the part where Luke was taking to Biggs on Tantoinne"

aight...is this the scene thats now on youtube? with luke talking to a friend?

false memory? the larger question is why do so few remember it? i guess there could have been some advertisement or promo that had the moon colored red or pink...

I truly believe u... I remember when Schindler's List (1993) came out. No one could remember the only color in that b/w movie was the little girl in a Red Coat. wink

yeah but the HUGE difference here is: that IS the way it is in every PRINT.

i am not calling anyone a liar, i am just saying they are not remembering what they think they are remembering.

Hmmmm. 3 people remember something that everyone else doesn't. Could have been an ad? I remember a friend of mine was convinced that in "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", Santa was riding around on an electric razor. Even when I said that it was a commercial that aired during it, he wouldn't hear of it. He was convinced it happened.

All I can say is that even IF it was in a print of it, it was an optical effect, much like the one mentioned in Schindlers List. That wasn't from a color film print, it was from an effect that was added.

Hope that 'splains things a little bit.

Ok then, now the question becomes - Is there ANY version of Under the Cherry Moon, official of not, color digitally added or an optical effect or whatever, that contains black, white, and red/pink?

it would be easy to do on any computer with off the shelf software... but that would not explain how it was shown (as part of the MOVIE) that was on HBO or whatever... which is what was said. i am only saying that there was no official print or version of the movie that had a cherry moon in it. maybe HBO made up a promo... but promos are NOT the official movie. and they would have to get permission from WB and Prince to make ANY such alterations to the movie.

but i still call "biggs syndrome" (or like in Jedi were people still say "when i say it Luke jumped up and grabbed the grate and the guards hit his hands during the part with the rancor" huh NO didn't)
