Prince: Dead or Alive Would Prince be viewed less critically if he had died suddenly after, say, SOTT? It seems that people are bashing him lately for just being his usual self and growing a little older. It is difficult for an artist to create art based on expectations. Maybe we should just enjoy the ride. I am betting the same bashers would be Graceland-type fans if we were to lose Prince.
Please no more posts requesting 'Rock" Guitar since Run & Them were saying "Here we go"

I have a lot of friends who are into old acts that are either retired or dead. I always say to them, it is far less risky to follow an artist who's legacy is secure and will never now release a modern 'duff' album. Following someone around now, you never know what you are going to get.
There are definately some artists who died before they had a chance to bring out inferior albums that might have lessened their 'legendary' status. I think the greatest example of this is John Lennon and Paul McCartney. If it had been Paul who died, he might have this legendary genius status and instead it be John who brought out boring jangly guitar albums and songs with animated frogs and people going, oh yeah, it was Paul who always wrote the best stuff.

Please no more posts requesting 'Rock" Guitar If you look at the music industry today and "expectations" on hits, I wouldn't care too much about how people or critics view Prince. Everyone has their time, and noone can expect Prince's current music to reach the height as it did in Purple Rain days, but if you have seen him lately in his live shows, he has definately crafted his art in more ways the one and he does not disappoint. So I would definately say, enjoy the music and enjoy the ride. [Edited 7/14/06 18:08pm]

Please no more posts requesting 'Rock" Guitar - I am convinced that, if Prince died on a plane crash during Lovesexy tour, he wouldn´t be bashed as he is today

from what I've read in the past John Lennon produced his fair share of iffy solo albums even before his premature death didnt he ? Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

ok carry on Isn't it painful when a Prince cover is bad. It really is. I honestly can't even think of one that's good...and IMO for a cover to be 'good' I have to like it better or just as well as the original...take The Sea and Cakes version of "Sound and Vision" for example. But good Prince covers? I can only think of one, and I don't even know who it's by.
