Sheila Cab Driver I may be about two decades late in realizing this, but this weekend I finally figured out why so many people thought "Oh Sheila" was a Prince song when it came out. Of course, it has many Princely sounds throughout, but it goes deeper than that. Melodically speaking, it's almost identical to "Lady Cab Driver". Of course, LCD has a funkier beat and is a far superior song, but listen to them back to back and you will get what I am saying.
If I'm late to the dance with this, sorry. Peace!

Wow!! You're dead on it. Both songs actually sound incredibly alike. I've never noticed this before. Did this group who sang "Oh Sheila" have any connections with Prince?

Ready For The World was the group and I believe they were pretty much disliked by P and his camps for biting his sound. I could be wrong. Maybe I just hated them. I AM BEATLOAF

I've said this before. I've also related both to "Galmorous Life" - basically I think they're 3 versions of the same song:
"She wants to lead, a Cab Driver, I want to love you 'till the mornin' comes " Doesn't make much sense, but you can hear it can't you? "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

I was listening to the extended Dance Remix of Hot Thing, and the strings after he says "Hot thing..." in the beginning part sound like "Sugar Walls." It's like "Hot thing...My sugar walls...Hot thing...My sugar walls..." The Normal Whores Club

He does that a lot with 12"s - for example GLam Slam Escape sounds like a precursor to Batdance, etc. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

Actually, it's funny y'all mention this, because the Hot Tracks remix service, at some time in the early nineties, did a nine minute re-edit of "Oh Sheila" that overlaid the really funky drum programs from the album version of "The Glamorous Life" (the ones that come at the beginning during the 'Club Edit' on the CD) and they fit perfectly. Once upon a time in a haystack of despair; happiness sometimes hard to find, yeah.

Oh sheila had heavy use of the linn drums, and I seem to recall they were from minneapolis...maybe?
