Prince songs that sound better on vinyl

I was listening to the Girl6 cd and had the amazing revelation that I prefer
Adore
on vinyl. Same with
The Cross
There's something about the clash between the rough sound of the technology with the multiple layers and intricacies of the cut that I think work better than the "cleaned-up" Cd version (even though you can hear more detail and clarity).
Other examples?

I think it's pretty well known that Sign O' The Times in particular sounds pretty subdued on CD compared to the vinyl version. I have heard the big reason whey a lot of 80s albums need remastering is because the final mix was aimed towards sounding good on vinyl not on CD. Late 80s, 90s onwards, CD had priority.

Although as well, many claim that vinyl can achieve frequencies or whatever that CD cannot - it's just that being smaller, easier to switch tracks, etc we've got used to the inferior sounds.

Similarly, mp3s are lower quality than CDs, but because it is easier to transport them and have them on tap, we are accepting their inferior sound.

Although I've always said, as much as anything it depends how good the speakers are that you're listening to this stuff through.

Yep, that pretty much wraps it up - I think you responded to another theread I once started on vinyl Prince. I have all the albums up to SOTT on vinyl ONLY, and all from LS onwards on CD. I can't imagine LS sounding better on vinyl!

BTW - are the versions on Girl6 the same as the regular CD versions. After all it's a sanctioned re-release - were they in any way re-mastered or enhanced?

A lot of the early Paisley Park releases like 'The Family' and 'Mazarati' sound way better on vinyl. I'm kinda sorry I sold my records after getting those albums on CD.

Parade sounds much better on vinyl then on CD: much spacier, you can actually hear the different instruments in the orchestral arrangements. When i bought the CD version of Parade is was really disappointed how 'flat' the music was sounding.

Snap

hopefully something comes along and totally revolutionizes the digital music world
i'm getting tired of hearing "flat" "subdued" music as others have pointed out
to me, most albums on vinyl sound better than their CD counterparts
(outside of the pops, hisses, and occasional skips, of course)

The PURPLE RAIN album sounds better on vinyl than it does on CD.

Everything pre-Batman sounds much, much better on vinyl. Except maybe The Black Album, which has lousy sound and tape-hiss in all formats.

Still, I would rather have properly remastered CDs that bring out the subtle sounds that only vinyl copies can offer so far.

Prince, you dick... kiss and make-up with Warners already.

I never understood the whole craze of vinyl. Vinyl records only sounded good for a few plays, then it was "snap crackle pop" any other time you played them, no matter how clean you tried to keep them. CD's have always been more cleaner and consistent sounding, not to mention more durable.

I have recently started collecting Prince on vinyl and, while I used to think it was silly of my parents to say that everything sounds better on vinyl, I've found that it's actually quite true. The pops and crackles are usually only present at the very beginning of the record before the music starts, and I actually find it enjoyable.. to me, there's something oddly satisfying about hearing the record hiss before the music begins playing.

Someone said that all the old stuff sounds better on vinyl and the new stuff sounds better on cd... I don't know if this is true or not, I only have 2 Prince records right now... U Got The Look 12" single and Purple Rain LP. These both sound better, especially Purple Rain, which I never really enjoyed before I dug out my mom's old vinyl record - Now I can't stop listening to it! I've always thought Purple Rain was overrated, but I really like listening to the whole album on vinyl.

Does someone who has new stuff, like Black Sweat and Fury on vinyl, wanna tell me how they sound compared to on cd? Also, is the entire 3121 album on vinyl?

Not wanting to turn this into some kind of audio forum, however..

I'm only a budding audiophile, but those in the know will tell you that good vinyl kicks good CD pressings into touch.

My own experience is from an audio/visual fair a few months back, where I was in the demo room of a high end manufacturer (Mackintosh), where the demonstrator was asked to play a CD and vinyl version of the same record.

The turntable was worth something like 10 thousand pounds (UK), as was the CD player.

He had 'Parachutes' by Coldplay.. The CD sounded really good, but then he put the vinyl version on and it was like lifting a veil on the music. Everything was just 'richer' and sounded more rounded. I preferred it, as did almost everyone else there, but of course it's all subjective.

..and when you get to a quiet bit in the music, do you really want to hear the background noise? That's a major downer.

For those who want to listen to vinyl records without the "snaps" and "pops", this may be your answer:

The only vinyl you really need is the purple rain album, so you can hear the backwards message at the end of purple rain
