That is the song that got me totally hooked on Prince.

My cousin was listening to this song one day and I asked him who it was. He told me. I was never the same after.

I heard it first as the second track on The Hits album.

Little Red Corvette...I was about 6 and my aunt had "The Hits," I had to borrow it every chance I get and I had LRC on repeat so many times...Of course, I had no idea what the song meant at the time ...

Computer Blue.


I remember hearing it in my friend's mother's mini-van on the way home from Dairy Queen.

Prince was a "bad boy" at the time, and you were definately hip if you liked him. And for parents who actually liked him (my my friends mom), it was totall over-the-top cool as hell.

Anyways, I heard the song, and when the middle of the song kicks in and you hear father's song with a totally different rythim and tone, I was blown away. It sounded like nothing on radio. I was totally hooked at hat momment.


Most of Prince's songs are about vaginas.

Well, Soft and Wet got my attention big time, then, of course, I Wanna Be Your Lover. But I think it was Dirty Mind that sealed the deal for real. The MUSIC, the Attitude and the Messages (Uptown, Partyup - fight yo own damn war!) that let me know there's a thinker behind this great music, too.
Hooked ever since.

I liked the singles that were out (Soft & Wet, I Wanna Be Your Lover) but my sister's copy of the Controversy album was particularly intriguing. I think she skipped over Dirty Mind so I didn't have access to that one in the house, but I know they played Uptown on the radio. So I probably got hooked as of Controversy... I guess

I remember digging that song when I listened to my brother's Purple Rain tape, but it wasn't until I saw the movie performance of it that it really got me hooked. Been on the purple wagon ever since.
