12 tracks per Prince album? Why not more

Beginning with the The Gold Experience album, then Emancipation, New Power Soul, Musicology, now 3121, why doesn't he put more songs on his albums. I mean if a cd can hold 20 songs, with as much music he has in his vault you would think he would be anxious to share those tunes in more abundance. Maybe instead of 12, 15 tracks.

Please don't tempt him. The big mistake he made in the past was releasing too much material, Emancipation being the classic example. It's a fault with a lot of modern albums that they're too long. Bringing the albums back to a shorter length is one of the few things he's getting right these days.

I like 50-60% of it, but there's a lot of people who never noticed the gems on the album because there was so much filler to get through.

Well sometimes 12 or even less tracks is right for that album and adding more just to add tracks would be wrong!

Bah... you ever listen to LPs? I mean great albums like Funkentelechy vs The Placebo Syndrome only have so few tracks, in this case six. There is absolutely no reason to put 20 tracks onto a CD. Half of them would be fillers/crap.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Well, as wel all know, albums on vinyl were orginally around 45 minutes long, so artists did use that length trying to create records that were musically, in ways of sequencing and sometimes thematically 'balanced'.

When the CD came, which can store about 75 minutes of music, musicians did start to fill up that entire length, not always resulting in better records, but often leading to many filly tracks.

I think some musicians have learned from that, and understand that you dont have to use the full length of the CD to create a good record, sometimes its just better to keep it with those 45 (or even lesser) minutes, to make a great record.

In my opinion music abouts the quality and not about the quantity, i mean: Dirty Mind is only 35 minutes long, but its a great, focussed compact record. While for example records like the Rainbow Children and the Symbol album could be better if they were shorter IMO.

Repeat. It's not the length but the quality of the content.
