Would Purple Rain 2, 3, 4 have worked?

Would TRUE sequels to Purple Rain (the movie) have worked?

Here's what I picture these movies being about:

• The Kid's upstart music career (recording, touring, looming artistic corruption, return or fight to maintain artistic integrity)

• Engagement to Apollonia, then relationship in trouble because of The Kid's career and her own career taking her in different directions (and also she'd be the jealous kind because of all the women at The Kid's shows)

• Morris is still around - still playing the "pimp" image but it's wearing thin and girl just aren't buying it anymore. The whole time he's had a flame for Apollonia and is the antagonist in her relationship with The Kid.

I was thinking about this after seeing the preview for Rocky 6: Rocky Balboa - wondering what it would've been like to chronicle The Kid's life in timely increments.

NOT Graffiti Bridge!

The Kid while asking the question of life decides to convert Glam Slam into a church/club. The club continues to lose money. The city is turning into a run down slum. While trying to help out neighborhood crack addicts, parts to be played by George Clinton and Tony M.

Morris is still around - still playing the "pimp" image but this time he is even more extreme. He secretly has George selling drugs at the club. Morris also has an addiction to internet porn, pissing away thousands a day on "cam" to watch some asses wiggle.

New on the scene, Minister Larry G. begins preaching at the club. He soon teaches George and Tony how to give up the drugs. Both are cleaned up and get good jobs in middle management. Morris after being pickled out of all his money, decides to give up on MPLS and moves to NY only to become the most successful stock broker of all time.

All dreams come true as the Kid is shown praying between every scene, chaos would unfold at the end. Later Morris returns with more money than Oprah buys out the club and converts it into a sleazy strip club. Leaving us with more questions than answers....

I think Prince should have left Purple Rain alone and make a movie that focused on two men, battling over the love for a woman, without the bombastic clothing, clubs and brouhaha.

Just make it about two guys coming from the same place, but going different directions. See them struggle for the love of a woman, both meeting their demons along the way.

One guy straight from prison, back into the ghetto, falling back in his old ways and the other guy learning from his mistakes, carving out a better world by taking the harder way to salvation.

Lots of bluesy tunes and guitar. Maybe gritty black and white would be great to illustrate this story.

Directed by Spike Jones, Halle Berry as the desired woman, playing a teacher, maybe. She also has the desire to make the world better, they all have. They just use different tools to get there. One uses the gun, the other is a struggling guitar player.
Prince would be the guitar player. Morris Day would be too comical to portray the guy from prison. This person needs to be charismatic, Day's got THAT ticket, but he needs to be menacing as well. Any ideas about who could play the hoodlum? He needs to Prince's height and age...

Uhmmm....

Morris Chestnut could play Morris Day. As for Prince, that kid from Barber Shop is a good lookalike (sorry not sure of his name).

I like the idea of MPLS getting rundown and the club falling on hard times. Not sure about the Internet porn though, since that didn't really exist around 86-90. Did it?
