I don’t know if I should laugh at this interpretation or be sick.
This song came out when I was 12. When you are a kid songs have an entirely different meaning than when you are an adult and realize a few things. Sort of like Bugs Bunny cartoons. . . I loved them and laughed so hard at the jokes without even knowing what it was really about until I got older. In the part of the song where it says: “Overcast days never turned me on. “ My interpretation of the lyric was: “Over-classed dames never turned me on. “ Growing up poor I thought to myself . . .”I don’t care what they say about Prince, he stands up for poor girls, and would rather date a poor girl than a fancy rich girl” Just this year I realized that I have had the words wrong all these years. Overcast days DO turn me on, what else is there to do on a rainy day? It’s funny how we will sometimes hear what we want to hear in a song to fit a need or a way of thinking/feeling. I have got to burn the image of your interpretation out of my mind now.. . . . MAN THAT IS GROSS. | |
