Agreed, the start of 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man' on the SOTT live film has always been an energising few seconds for me.
Just when Sheila (or whomever) shouts 'Come on!' then Sheila starts pounding them drums... Whoa..funkaaay...I wish that could last for a wee bit longer. And aye, Tambourine has some top drumming. "I'm much too hot to be cool"

Controversy Most of the 1999 album (so cold it's hot!) Darling Nikki When Doves Cry Tamborine Kiss Sign O The Times Housequake (funky like a motherfucker) If I Was U're Girlfriend Le Grind Cindy C Superfunkycalifragisexy Alphabet Street Dance On The Question Of U (slow but a sensual funky beat) Gett Off Pheromone P Control Billy Jack Bitch Days Of Wild New World Cloreen Bacon Skin (hell yeah!) Sexual Suicide Come On Musicology Black Sweat (I didn't think Prince could make the beat that hot again!) How do you have that extensive of a list but NOT have LADY CAB DRIVER ON IT? LCD is his FONKAYIST beat of all time. I said most of the 1999 album. The only song that wasn't funky was Free because it was a ballad. Read a little closer next time. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

If we're talking true FUNKI.... it probably has to be 777-9311.
I think most poeple are just putting down their "favorite" drum beats, not the funkiest (then again some poeple i've noticed have very odd interpetations of what is funky!). As funky as Irrisitble Bitch is, the live version he did was usually a straight beat in the pocket, although the groove the band was playing was hella funky. I'm surpirsed noone mentioned Glamorous Life. Not sure who programmed the Linn (him or Sheila) but even if you strip away Sheila's live timbale/cybal work, the programmed beat is one of the most unique and funkiest ever (take a listen...it's very complicated.....and really hard to play live throuhgout a whole song..... with very syncopated kick drum parts).
