Have You Ever Taken A Break From Prince

You know I have loved me some Princey for about twenty-something years now and every now and then I need to take a break from him and his music no matter how talented he may be nod. Do you ever need a break from Prince? How do you feel when you get Princed-out? boxed.

I've gotten "Princed-out" before. I go on these Prince binges where I listen to nothing but Prince for a month or two, and then I'll take a month or two break from him.

Sure, but I do that with all the artists I love. I go through cycles that fit where I currently am in my life.

Sometimes it's all Radiohead, The Verve, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, etc. for a while, then all Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stevie Wonder for a while.

I've been listening to British music non-stop since I came to Japan, but now I'm getting back into Prince again.

Well, in the 80s/early 90s I could listen to Prince anytime. But there is so much more good music out (and the P records - while still good - not as spectucular anymore). So yes, the mind wonders, but there is always a special place in my heart for his music ...

No, I don't usually take a break from Prince. I listen to a lot of different music, but I still play some Prince at least once or twice a week.

I started listening to him when I was 11, I'll be 33 w/in days. I took a long break when he had SLAVE written on his face and wasn't "Prince" anymore. I thought his energy was bizarre & didn't like the phase & I always called him Prince even though no one else did (I felt very rebelious doing that, but I knew it was just a phase). But somehow RaveUntoTheJoyFantastic brought me back in.

Same with me D&P was the first album to make me question my love for Prince.

Once again I blame Tony M. That fucker put me off Prince for years.

I feel you on this..

I really got sick of seeing him doing those days. These years are why 25 year olds and younger don't really know who Prince is- musically. They simply did not "grow up" hearing Prince on radio..because of this strange time in his music career. This group will be a very difficult audience for him to capture....

I'm taking a break right now, infact... I think i may be over, actually. I can't take the jesus baloney, and I think 3121 is embarassing... shallow even. Him and his 30,000 a month party palace can suck my dick. The world is burning and I get INANE emails about the celebrities that come to his VIP-only parties. He's not much of that artist that I loved anymore. He doesn't stand for the things that he used to, and I'm not into his new conservatism. I feel like he's wasting his talents. Been waiting for him to to snap out of it for a long time. 3121 was a tipping point for me. I think I'm over him.

I took a break from Prince back in 1988 when he released that LoveSexy crap. At that time, I became mesmerized by the New Jack Swing sound from Teddy Riley & Guy, Wrecks N Effect, Today, Red Head King Pin, etc, and they had totally distracted me from Prince. I was around 20 at the time, young, dancing on Soul Train and totally into the commercial music of the late 80's. As the New Jack Sound continued thru the end of the 80's and a coupla years into the 90's, it kinda affected my attention-level towards Batman, Graffitti Bridge and D&P. As I slowed down some and grew older, I slowly leaned again towards Prince. By the time Come came out in 93', I was already retired from Soul Train & the comm'l music & back on the Prince-wagon again.

Oh definitely. I think every P fan should take a break from him from time to time. There will be times where I don't want to listen to anything of his but they'll be times where I can't listen to anything else but Prince. Right now, I'm splitting up my time with Prince and other artists in my collection.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Oh yeah. I will admit it. I took a year off from anything Prince related, it was hard but I did it. I think that it was during the "LoveSexy" stage, that was when I lost my faith in Uncle P. But that was the last time. I can't leave my boy hangin like that.
