3121 Re-Release

Someone on HQ brought up and excellent idea. Do you think Prince should re-release 3121, gave it a second chance with some remixes and extended versions, sort of like what he did for Rave In2? Or do you think he should leave it alone, what's done is done already?

Gawd, leave it alone...If should take his time creating a new album, not remixing an already made one...

leave it be. it'd be kinna ridiculous if he were to put it out as an album full of remixes, it ain't worthy of it.

I like the idea. He could even throw in one of the live performances from 3121.

I agree. Maybe because I liked what he did with Rave In2 so much, I think he can do the same for 3121. It'll be a nice way to kick off a tour (if there is one).

Unless I'm wrong,I don't think it is available to download anywhere, like Itunes, still? It would make sense to make a big splash about releasing it for download for the first time. That is the bigger market these days, 3121 has done rather well if you consider it is entirely through sales of physical CDs only.

Can anyone tell me when Rave was re-released as Rave In2, how it was received? Sorry, I came back on after Musicology tour.

Why not? It would be a nice change especially if it contained remixes razz .

It was only available to fans via the website, so it didn't really get 'received' at all other than by fans who thought it was a slight improvement on the original.

Hmmmm, not quite what I would hope for on a re-release.

You know I am sooo pissed at the way Universal treated this CD. There was that obnoxiously long time period of no promotion. I mean say what you will but Prince has been on the road (I mean all the TV appreances) trying to promote this CD. Still Universal didn't buy him any radio time and you need that to back up the performances. The more people see you and hear you they more they realize how great the cd is.

I don't know about a re-release but I would like to see major weight thrown behind "Incense and Candles" with a high quality video in heavy rotation on BET and on "black" radio. I think a hit would propel this project back to the expectations we all had when it debuted #1.

I know alot of casual fans that bought 3121 and love it. I just don't think Universal capitolized on that imo.

I'm totally down with the idea of rereleasing 3121. If we look back on Rave In2... more people liked that CD than Rave Un2 and in this day and age where people are re-releasing their CD's I don't see why Prince shouldn't do the same. I think this is the best CD he's done in a while and it deserves to be heard by as many people as possible. Besides, I wanna hear what more Prince can do with Black Sweat and Lolita. He could even put new songs on there and eliminate others.

Oh, I know who wrote that piece on HQ. He's cool people wink .

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

3121 - increase the tempo
Fury - cleaned up SNL version (a la purple rain)
Black Sweat - Keep the same tune, but change the high pitched sounds to be a little more pleasing to the ears. Maybe multi-layer his voice at some point like he used to do a lot. Make it longer, add a really funky solo of some kind
The Dance - Don't see how it could be any more perfect, but definitely extend it somehow.
BL&B needs to be REMOVED alltogether
Satisfied can stay the way it is
The Word needs to be less acoustic sounding and more rockin

Just my thoughts..

and who would buy it? if he can't get a country with 400 million people to buy half a million cd's these days he would have to COMPETE on american idol to sell 100 thousand remix cds! wink

Sadly, you are correct. I personally wish Prince would just stop worrying about REgaining mass appeal, and just focus on his craft. Y'know, beneath that glam exterior is a pretty durn good musician wink.

i am not too quick to blame universal. prince has a nasty habit of being difficult. i would not be surprised if the didn't want to release tamar's cd and he held out on appearances until they ok'd it. prince is a pain in the butt and that ain't nothing new.

this is my theory as well. Well, I'm also betting on the standard Prince problem. By the time the album actually dropped he was probably sick of it all and ready to move on to the next project.

as to the thread topic. A re-release could be fun for us, but I have serious doubts it would help this project re-gain any momentum. Only a tour with a well promoted single could accomplish that.

Really? just a 'slight' improvment?

I've just bought RaveIn2 on ebay and am waiting for it to arrive...i dont really listen to RaveUn2 much anymore, was hoping this would be a substantial improvment...

how's the 'hot wit u' remix? sounds good...

Please, no more of Larry, Doug E and Tony M. (although, I could really dig me some T.C. Ellis rappin on Te Amo Corazon).

Aussie Boobs, that is pretty damn funny, sick and very wrong. I hope P doesn't read this crap because he may have just got an idea.

Nice Rack by the way
