Graffiti Bridge was a really good movie ,Great Spiritual message, However it came off as 1 long music video. And Prince didn't talk . Purple Rain had everything going for it a good story, good music and good characters. The look was right, the timing was right, the vibe was right. People could Relate to it. Purple Rain seemed Real. Graffiti Bridge seemed like a Fantasy piece.

Tangey, are you trying to play a joke??? First of all, the storyline of 'Purple Rain' grabs you and keeps you're interest. Graffiti Bridge, although I dig the fantasy stuff, you just don't think of playing that movie as much as PR. Purple Rain's message is deep and more dramatic, as opposed to Graffit Bridge, I don't even remember how the movie ended and I saw it twice. When I can't recall something like that from a movie or song, to me that means that it wasn't affecting, and that it wasn't that good.
BTW, That was a good observation of the two movies, V. [This message was edited Thu Aug 1 20:04:18 PDT 2002 by Starmist7]

Ummm...PR vs. GB??? PR in a slaughter. Rain is a landmark album that most Prince fans take for granted because of the amount of airplay it's received over the years, and familiarity breeds contempt for some people. GB is in no way a landmark as a whole - although in my opinion it has a few landmark songs on it. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Graffiti Bridge seemed unfocused, unfinished and incorporated Rap...bad move.
First sign that things were going to be wacky. It was really suppose to be a bigger and better movie. Graffiti Bridge FEELS LIKE WB forced Prince to turn into a sequal, which at the time I thought was a bad idea. Something fresher would have been better. BUT I must say, it was fun at the time. I like the era for what it is and he placed some great songs on there. I like it more than the cheesy Diamonds and Pearls era that followed. It shows the frustration around WB. Like WB execs were represented by the characters in The Time and The Kid was Prince and how he was being effed around with by WB. Maybe Prince sabotoged the movie in a way. Jill Jones left Prince and so did Sheila E. for a bit. I wonder. It was also his last movie MOVIE. Anyway, Purple Rain's way cooler, just because it's fascinating period and felt like things were good and Prince was very supported by the WB studios. Plus it had a stronger more coherent soundtrack which still blows people away. ~*~ [This message was edited Thu Aug 1 21:10:39 PDT 2002 by FlyingCloudPassenger]

I think I like Purple Rain better is because, well I mean the first time I saw it I cried until I couldn't cry anymore, lol, and I mean it's just so touching to me, I love that movie, and I can't explain it, it just has a vibe that the other one doesn't, but everyone has a differen't opinion so I am willing to bet alot of other people like Graffiti Bridge better.

Purple Rain Easily.though I find the Album a Bit Overrated to Me aside from a few Songs it easily Smashes GB.Purple Rain was a Hungry Artist with a Vision&Hopes to take on the World.Graffti Bridge seemed like a Cat trying to Pull a Fast Quincy Jones "Back On The block" Vibe&stuck in His Own backyard of Life with filming a Film on a Whole Studio which looked&felt like Olan Mills.Joy In Repetition was a tight Jam but overall the whole Vibe felt like Prince&Crew were just going through the Motions IMHO."When Doves Cry",alone showed more Heart&Vibe within it's time on Screen than the Whole GB Film Combined IMHO.PR was Cool GB was Corny Overall to me. mistermaxxx

I couldn't have said it any better...Purple Rain had soul, Graffiti Bridge didn't have any! (though Elephants & Flowers, and We Can Funk were tight)

I think it has a lot to with when you first saw PR the first time. Whether you were in the theatre in 1984...or whether you saw it in the 90's when you became a fan.
I have a friend that I got into Prince, he bought GB and PR on video...he LOVED GB..but said the PR was a "dated film" I couldn't understand that at first. It does look "80ish" but...being in the theatre, and seeing it when it was released...there are NO words. Truly changed alot of our lives right there. GB was a horrible movie, hands down. The only thing that saved it for me...was seeing him do "Tick Tick Bang" and crawling on the ground. UTCM was a far better movie than GB and PR surpasses them both. (maybe because someone else directed it)?!?! PR defined a whole ERA of music, style and attitude. The Prince.org Photo Album http://www.purplehouse.nl...ery/Jacqui

There is a VERY good reason for this... Graffiti Bridge was one of the single worst movies in a long history of bad movies. I can't remember even one redeeming quality... BUT... follow this link if you want to torture yourself: http://www.amazon.com/exe...24-0804069 They have GB for sale... SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com
