Are you saying compaired to the muppets he seemed normal?
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Never. Even when his music has been toned down, his appearance hasn't.....the permed hair, the make-up, the heels. He needs to never be normal because there's way too much normal these days. Someone needs to stand out.
Andy is a four letter word.

No Mick, U sick Paddy, He seemed chilled out and willing to take the piss out of himself a bit while comfortably conversing with puppets.

He also seemed quite normal in the Rave press confrence when he got asked about Michael Jackson and who'd win in a fight.

Well then, maybe someone should offer to do an interview with him as a muppet or with a puppet. I'd do that for Prince. nod

Gee...Prince...normal.

Sorry doesn't ring a bell. If Prince was "normal" I wouldn't like him. I can say that honestly. I mean everything the man does draws attention. He doesn't have to open his mouth to saw anything. Just what he wears draws attention. And I don't mean those bikini drawers like back in the day. An asymetrical cut suit--we all saw him in it--with his trademark high heels. And that's a "normal" outfit for Prince. I have just recognized in the way that he carries himself, no matter what he does, he'll never fit the "norm" for your typical artist.

And you know why? Because Prince was made to be different. And that's probably why we're all fans to start with!
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me.
Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots.
Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

Now is his most normal period....the early period (before DM) qualifies too, but thats when the horrendously "not right" outfits started appearing....who could forget.....

...ughhh....still have nightmares bout that one..... lol

...but he's normal now b/c (and I paraphrase Bill Cosby on this one....)

Prince and Larry Graham are trying to get that ticket on the Spaceship flown by the Witnesses to that big Kingdom Temple in Space. lol

Seriously...I am trying to think of when he has been reasonably normal and I think it is when he was married and right now...

Normal is so subjective, but the last few years have seen him become more accessible to mainstream America while he holds onto vestiges of his unique personality.

Case in point: About a day after he toured ATL with Musicology, a radio station DJ on the sports talk station (680AM) was raving about how great it was to see the man in a suit versus the assless pants of 1991.

Although we know that P has a unique array of clothing, the Gett Off era image stuck with many in the mainstream population as who Prince was.

For me, he always has been normal, but he marches to his own beat smile

Don't get me wrong: P is a unique cat and to many folks outside of the fams, they don't get it.

His music is an extension of his personality, so I totally get what he tries to accmplish 9/10 times. (still doesn't explain Wedding Feast).

The Slave era, the clothing, the cryptic chit chat, musical experiments, and other "eccentricities" make him consistently stay interesting.

Thanks.

If you think about it, P has done something almost unheard of.

In an era where artists are constantly pimping their product and feel obliged to explain EVERYTHING about their lives (i.e. Madonna and others), P's quirks have preserved his integrity as an artist.

I remember reading an old issue of my parents Ebony magazine a while back and in the letters to the editor (from 1981), someone wrote in stating that Prince would be a footnote in musical history because of his being.

Fast forward to 2005. The org has a wonderful blend of people: straight, gay, young, old, all nationalities. That has to be attributed to the power of the man's personality/music. If he went the pimping route and made himself all things to all people, he would have fizzled back in the 1980's.

But lets look at this objectively.....

....try bein a 13/14 year old boy....diggin on the music, no doubt, but having friends that weren't quite as progressive.....already giving u shit cuz u listened to Prince....then that picture comes out on a mag cover that is readily available in the neighborhood "bodegas"....

..wasn't h8n on the man.....or the music....just used the pic in question to illustrate the differences....he wears suits now....instead of nut-cutter shorts and suspenders.....YIKES!!! eek

Explain.

His music isn't particularly weird or cutting edge, it's concise pop. His last tour was a fan pleasing set of hits. He appears on award shows, has even presented awards, also mainstream TV shows. His appearance is not very androgynous anymore, his hairstyle is fairly normal. He's back to his given name. He's not so overtly sexual or nasty, doesn't cuss. He's not half naked all the time or sticking his tongue out...

I actually think the 1976 1979 period, where he was just another pop making teenager. He wrote mainstream songs about various aspects of teenage love. Hardly outrageous, the only novelty being the fact he did it all and had a big ass contract.
Dirty Mind is where he becomes an individual and breaks free of the normative mould he had been cast into.
17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

I can't really argue with the last 2 years or so but actually, it was the Emancipation era that made me think of the question. Prince was dressed a little more "normally" wearing pull over sweaters and such, married, expecting a child and even showed up on Oprah
lol
