As far as musicianship, ability to play multiple styles, etc., there are only two choices:

1. Sign o' the Times/Lovesexy band
2. One Nite Alone/Musicology version of NPG

Cosign again.those guys could(can)make music from fresh air.I would imagine u would just need 2 shout a key signature 2 Renato then everything would just fall in2 musical heaven after that.Princes backing backing bands get better with every change of member.....
u know u want 2...so do it

You know, they've mostly all been great.

My personal fav. is probably the post-Andre, pre-Wendy proto-Revolution, and also the '95 NPG.

But I liked the '92 NPG too with Levi, and the SOTT/LS band of course.

Not so hot for the Emancipation-NPS era line-up(s).

yes yes yes
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I used to say the Gold Experience NPG....but I reliazed how regulated they were and reliazed that there wasn't much room for input from the band. I have to say now the One Night...Alone...live crew

It's very hard to pick. I want to go with SOTT/Lovesexy, then I think of the "America" live performance with the Revolution which kicked ass! But if I had to pick one, I would say SOTT/Lovesexy.

Tough question.

I have my favorite players - Drums - Michael Bland, Percussion - Sheila E., Bass - Sonny T., Guitar - Levi, Keys - Lisa Coleman, Horns - Eric Leeds or Eddie M, Greg Boyer.

thats what I mean,
that to me was the REAL NPG !
I was so disapointed when Emancipation came out, and he still called the band NPG, but it was a total diff. line up, (-not that it was bad, but to me the real NPG was those 4 guys, with the master on vox and guitar !)
when will we ever see/hear that again ?
it was magic !!
