Q Magazine 80s Issue - Prince

Just thumbed through latest Q magazine and see that they've ranked (somehow) the 40 best albums and the 40 best tracks of the 80s.

SOTT is at 12 on the album listing (Joshua Tree no1)

Kiss is at 3 on the track listing.

No surprises there I guess.

There's a big feature on Madonna too presumably because her star has been obviously in the ascendant since the 80s. I would argue though that if you took creative output from 1980-1989 on its own there's no-one that could touch ol' purple pants as "Artist of the Decade".

I thought Prince was seriously unrepresented in both lists.

Why isnt Purple Rain one of the best albums or singles of the eighties?

When Doves Cry should be there too.

Prince was virtually an American sensation during the 1999-Purple Rain era...The Brits and Europe in general only started to get into the midget during the Parade-Sign O The Times era...Mostly because he toured Europe with those albums....

Nah, man. Purple Rain was a big deal in the U.K.
It may have peaked at #7 but it spent more weeks on the chart than any of his other albums and remains his biggest seller over here.
