did prince mime guitar on lovesexy tour? i watched lovesexy live. during 'lets go crazy' he squats on the floor and the guitar begins to play, however, prince isnt playing it at the time. i am aware of 'hammering on' techniques in guitar playing where the individual is able to play the guitar with the fret hand. however, prince is not doing this and it is noticable that he himself realises that he has missed his 'cue' to start playing again. the guitar is not miko's ever, as his guitar sound is distintively different than p's. has anybody else noticed this?? go run to your vcr's, wath carefully and you will see what i mean!!!
p.s i dont doubt princes greatness on the guitar, he IS the shit!!! although, i think he was faking this time!!! (just for that part anyway.) You do as I say | |

I didn't see it, yet. But I will when I come home 2nite.
But other than that I had noticed once, that during 1999 also Mr. Levi Seacer does not seem 2 play the bass live... I have noticed quite a lot of times that they are using playback in the background (maybe 2 keep it going if somebody misses the cue), maybe they did the same during that show because it was recorded for TV broadcast... Who knows... | |

What live Lovesexy video? The official one, double VHS version?
I have that taped from the UK way back. I never noticed that. But did you notice when Prince's guitar didn't work right at the highlihgt guitar solo of Anastesia!?!? That was funny. He was playing his ass off and you didn't hear his solo! He just took off the guitar and placed it on the floor. Then just encouraged the audience to sing. All caught on tape! To see the mess up was kind of cool. Very raw. But I'll keep your observation in mind next time I pull me tape out! | |

Towards the end of the song he is going to town, but we can't hear a thing. | |

Has Prince ever taken in action concert type photos 4 publicity? I've seen several photos from the Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999 days where Prince is playing guitar but it's not hooked up. No cable is plugged in2 the jack on the guitar. What's up with that? | |

Well I saw Lovesexy 3 times and he never faked his guitar playing then and I have seen that video countless times and I can't see anything to suggest he is faking it. |

He doesn't mime in concert with instruments or voice. However he does use backing tracks to beef everything up a bit. Any inconsistant stuff is most probably over dubbing in post production. ----------

Well being as he wasn't performing live on the movie I doubt that it has to do with editing. They tried to film the tour, but it didn't work out so Prince went into the studio and recorded a "live concert" and then mimed it for the film. | |

No, he's not miming on Lovesexy. Sometimes his guitar drops out, but that would be the technician's, or the equipment's, fault. (Same thing on the aforementioned MTV thing). The guitar you're hearing on the Lovesexy show is Miko. Miko has said in interviews that Prince taught him to mimic his style, so they could create a "layered" guitar soound in concert, much like that which Prince has on record. This would account for why you're seeing Prince play, but hearing only Miko's guitar. If you pay attention during that show, you'll hear some examples of what I'm talking about. More than once it sounds like Prince is playing over himself,but it's actually Miko dueting with him. All the other times, Miko is playing in his own style.

c'mon, he's miming that line!! i know what doudling up sounds like!! if both mico and prince are playing a layered sound at this point then whyu does the sound not change when prince realises that he's forgot to play and starts. he's miming. even genius cut the odd corner. as i said before though, he is a grwat live guitarist. I know exactly what you're talking about. I put on the video after I saw this thread and there's definitely something wrong. Did you notice just prior to him crouching down, he carries his mike stand over to the front of the stage, yet he's still doing a solo? Some people are like Slinkies...
