Anyone has seen the live-video of America? On a certain site on the net, which i wont name (lol), i have seen the live-performance of America. I hadnt seen that in about 10 - 15 years or so.
Alltough the soundmix of the performance is not perfect i must say that its one of the best, most captivating live-moments i have EVER seen from him: not only the performance (an extended jam-version of the song) is full of energy, but the way the man is dancing, swinging, pouting and obviously enjoying himselve is a breathtaking thing to watch: he is just everywhere on the stage, throwing tambourines and records into the audience, hugging Wendy from behind and at the end of the song he takes place after the drums for a solo. He just looks so naturally happy and - how should i say that - 'free' in this performance, that its captivating. When i look at some Prince performances from the nineties and the last years, it almost seems like he holds back more, showing more 'studied' behaviour. When i think about that late eighties period (The joyfull performances from the Sign of the Times-movie, the Lovesexy concert in Dortmund) in general, i get the idea he was at his happiest as a person, at ease with himselve.

This, and the Girls & Boys video were what hooked me on Prince.
I was just OBSESSED by these two videos/songs as a kid, and I remember being so disappointed at the time of buying ATWIAD and hearing the album version of America and how different it was to the performance video (of course, I love the studio version now!)

Good assessment, Riverpoet. I was just watching this video myself the other night, it's a lot of fun! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015
