Would "Sign O the Times" have sounded any different? Ooooh i had never even thought about that. To be honest i wouldn`t want it to sound differently from what it already is :perfect! lol Of course I'll undress in front of U!

To be honest i wouldn`t want it to sound differently from what it already is :perfect! lol I recently acquired a different version of "Strange Relationship" (with a lot of sitars) and an extended version of "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Ma n" As well as well as various out takes, it just makes me wonder what an original "Crystal Ball" or Revolution influenced "Sign O The Times" might have sounde like.

There wouldn't have been a SOTT if The Revolution were still around after Parade, because almost certainly The Dream Factory would've been the next release, and half of SOTT is from DF any way, so it already is 'Revolution influenced' (if you wanna put it that way).
BTW - Those versions of Strange Relationship and ICNTTPOYM are from DF.

i remember reading about the break up... *it had a PRINCE era photo of him* it just said Prince broke up the band to go in a different direction. a short time latter there was a bit in Parade Mag that talked about Sign O the Time and that eary word is that it is great.

It's not like wouldn't have gotten all the songs off of it anyway, I wish they would have stayed together for the Dream Factory album and tour.

It's said Wendy & Lisa wanted to leave the band to do their own music, so Prince didn't really have a choice and just went with it rather than fought it.
When people say 'The Revolution' influence his music, surely the only people really influencing Prince hugely were W&L? Prince still mainly did everything himself rather than getting the entire band in the studio? The Revolution as a whole band still being mainly a live band? Therefore when W&L left the sound would have changed anyway.

ICNTTPOYM is edited even on Sign O The Times and that version of Strange Relationship is a remixed/reworked version from Camille. Hot Thing, Housequake, If I Was Your Girlfriend, U Got The Look, It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night = Not from Dream Factory at all. SOTT, ICNTTPOYM, Strange Relationship = Edited and/or reworked from their DF versions. [Edited 7/4/06 8:18am]

I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man.

he had to break it up or that line from "song about" would not have made any sense.

Heck no! I'm glad he did because the Sign of the Times band was...

No, he didnt.
As is stated often in the media, the revolution werent able to cope with the more complex, 'jazzier' kind of he music he was trying to produce in the late eighties. They messed up with quicker jams, and Prince was at that moment looking for more skilled, versatile musicians. Wendy and Lisa might have had but a huge impact on him when it comes to broading his musical horizons, the Revolution as a band in general werent that technically skilled: - Bobby Z, mediocre drummer, disguised by the use of drummachines and electronic drums - Brown Mark, a mediocre, stiff bass-player, not very fluent

SOTT/Lovesexy band was far and away the best band he ever had! (IMHO) They were great but I feel that any group of hired musicians could have done the job, they had chemistry but chemistry that didn't leave the stage.

Prince, Cat, and Sheila had several photoshoots done of just the 3 of them. They look like a triple threat powerhouse - like something great could come from those 3 people. They looked fierce. Unfortunately, it is Prince's RECENT bands that lack chemistry on or off stage. Ever since 1996, Prince has hired a revolving door of musicians who... really... I mean.... Who the fuck are they? I don't even know who is in the NPG right now. I mean I might know a handful of names, but those people are merely automatons to me.

F'real - It's been difficult to keep up with all the changes, so I haven't bothered - they're all pretty faceless, and don't stick around very long.
