I dont consider Prince a great lyricist, but sometimes he can write lines or verses that are touching, witty or just plain funny. So i see 'moving' in a broader way then sad or emotional.
His best lyric in my opinion is still "If i was your girlfriend". I always thought on the Camille-lyrics he did sound more mature and as a real person then on most of his 'normal' material. This song is the best of that bunch in my opinion: expressing a strong longing for empathy and intimacy, but also showing the lonelieness and the despair behind the longing. Apart from that it has my favorite songline by him: "Lets try to imagine what silence looks like" Pure brilliance in my opinion, almost like some buddhistic koan. | |
