Ok, might as well explain.

I uploaded a copy of Days Of The Wild (live in montreal) to my server to send to a friend who had broken his copy. 'While its there', I thought, 'I may as wel invite some people to download it before I remove it the next day. So I posted on amp & the next day recieved an email threatening legal action against my bootleg site.

Now, ya'll know me & my music as Im talking about it all the time, do I run a bootleg site? NO!

I guess it was a pretty stupid idea but it doesnt make me feel any better about the way they handled it. Its put me on a right downer this morning & has caused me to question the moral composure of a man I have idolised for so long.

Prince has been saying for a long time that he approves of file sharing & napster stuff so why does he threaten me. Of course all this would have been helped if Prince hadnt employed an illiterate monkey to send me this email

So that's what they are doing all day, instead of sending us some new CD's and making retail available.
They are browsing the web all day trying to find sites that they don't approve. The bastards...

Oh, I see. The whole legal side to Prince's World is the only real bad vibe I get.

I was a subscriber to The Interactive Experience (a UK fanzine) a few years ago. I did not have an internet connection at this time and it was invaluable to me in keeping up with what was happening in the world of Prince. I had just renewed my annual subscription (£15 I think) when Prince's lawyers came down like a ton of bricks on people like Uptown, The Interactive Experience and their assoc. websites for unauthorised use of the o+> symbol and discussion of bootleg recordings etc. I did not receive any more fanzines. I decided not to chase for the money as I thought they would need it more than me. This left me very disillusioned about Prince (or his legal representatives).

From this episode it seems they are still pretty strict on what is and isn't allowed.

The only thing I'm obsessed about is Sex. So Fuck me and Bite me now! Growl! Growl! Pant! Pant!

Hmmm...should I rephrase what I said before? Well, I think it's true that maybe it's the people he got looking out that's taking it a bit too far. But don't take it personally with 'the symbol'. I don't think he's that easily accessible, you know what I mean?

I do hope you feel better soon enough. Those things really do take a negative toll on one and are really bothersome. Maybe you should, if you haven't done so already, write them a response. Cheers up for you! And Keep your mission going.

Anyhow, don't let this thing get to you. Prince is going through an anal-retentive stage I guess (and hope). Maybe he's been in the business too long, who knows. I hope this one incident doesn't destroy your appreciation for the guy.

No, I don't think that letter was from Prince though. That's why I think you should write them.

Well, just be a bit more careful with the file sharing. Don't inform on those things at AMP or at the .ORG.

In fact there has been dozens of such sites offering downloads. Awhh, the Prince Board... fond memories.

When Prince says "free the music" he only means as long as he gets paid for it. I guess the line between him and the music industry he bashes is finer than we thought. Prince is an ass hole, because he has always put money before letting his creativity get to those few left who actually give a damn about it.
