The most misanderstood LPs

Do you get the feeling when you're in Church and they're talking about Satan, some of U feel bad cuz U get that feeling as if they were talking about you wink?? Well, I do have this feeling 'HERE' when somebody bash ppl who love(Graffiti Bridge/Rave) like ME.

GB-I haven't saw the movie yet thats why I anderstand the vibes against that LP(Coz o' the movie wink). But 4 me, this LP is the cream in my coffe(I know I'd be spanked 4 that lol) I'm 4 real tho. 'Th Q of U' is the MAIN reason why I love this LP, U just can't go wrong wit that song(Esp the drum beat) but If you could then I'm impressed wink. 'Can't stop this feeling I got' & 'We can funk' are my kinda up-tempos while 'Graffiti Bridge' is the BEST song in their. The music, the harmonies and the message makes it good 4 a sistah. Altho I do agree that some of the songs in there are kinda,,,"Corny" lol.

Rave-2 be honest?? I don't know what I'm gonna type other than the fact that its the 1st LP I ever bought from Prince.I love 'Tangerine', 'So Far, So Pleased', ' The Sun, The Moon And Stars', 'ManOwar'(A new R&B tune), 'Silly Game'(Straight Neo-Soul not a Jill Scott track like the slow jams in TRC rolleyes) and 'Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do'(Simply beocz he's like talking to my kids-Don't talk 2 strangers PT.2). And 2 be MORE honest?? I bought the damn thing becoz of the cover and not becoz some SONG :p.

I think The Family album is misunderstood. It seems like such a pretty classical yet modern thing all alone in a cold limbo. It needed a home and some appreciation.

Harlepolis,

Don't be discouraged, you aren't the only one who loves those cds. I have a friend who can't get enough of 'Rave.' I think we all lose sight of the fact that we love Prince so much and we hold him to such high standards that when those standards aren't met we throw the product away as trash, when in reality it is still better than most.

I think of it this way...I would rather have to listen to listen to The Vault, Rave, and Graf-Bridge than have the variety of listening to the top forty albums on the Billboard charts. Why is that? Because Prince is still better with a so-so album than Creed will ever be with their most successful album.

I like Graffiti Bridge A lOT.
The album, NOT the song!
Rave is weak, but I still like it and listen
to most of it. I don't know how ppl dug
Baby Knows though. Blah...
NPS is a bit weak also, but I like it too.
I think that 2 of the most missunderstood
albums would have to be
Come & Chaos and Disorder.
Although I understand the basic facts behind
ppl's beef with these 2 albums, I happen
to really like them.
Come has some really cool songs on it:
Pheremone, Papa, Race, Dark, SOLO, Letitgo.
MANY ppl hate SOLO, but I can get shivers
listening to it.
Chaos may have some really shitty songs on it:
I Rock Therefore I Am (what was he thinking
with that "npg to the maximum" crap & the
"Reggae flavored rap"?!?)
and Right The Wrong I never listen to, however,
I really enjoy the rest of the album.
I know sometimes it is wierd with everyone's
difference of oppinion, but it can be fun seeing
what ppl like & dislike.
I find it interesting that someone could
actually like & listen to the Graffiti Bridge
song or 3 Chains O' Gold!
biggrin

Gee, I didn't know I'd take soo much abuse 4 liking these CDs. Gawd, its not like they're my MOST favorite, I just find 'em 'COOL' to listen thats all I guess. Besdies I would pick 'em any day over that 'NewPowerSoul' no offence 4 those who like it.

TRC.

And uhh, although I don't consider GB one of his best albums (mainly because it has too many other people's songs), it's better than NPS. Any album with The Question Of U and Joy In Repetition (among a few others that are very good)is redeemable.

Graffiti Bridge is a precious child that has been wrongly abused. Let me wipe your tears. I love the album, despite a few nuances. I purposely avoided buying it until I saw the movie first so I could see how the music fit into the movie. I fell in love with the whole experience, and whenever I play it I am reminded (as if by the remini-scents of an ex-girlfriend's perfume) of a special time when it was all very personal to me and dug deep into my heart. The roots remain. Long live Graffiti Bridge.

Rave isn't misunderstood in my book its simply the most cynical album he's ever made. It's dreadfully paced, uneven and badly produced. Having said that though around half the songs are very good..ie

Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic
TGRES
Hot With U
The Sun Moon And Stars
Man O War
Baby Knows
Pretty Man
Strange But True

..However its hard to really appreciate them when the CD as a whole is so ponderous. It never gathers any sort of momentum and lacks any underlying theme i mean even NPS had a theme to it despite it being lousy. I cannot think of any other Prince album that is so disjointed and he should be ashamed of himself for treating his music in this fashion.

I think 'Rave' is a wonderful album! A lot of people like Prince for different reasons which could be because he can do so many different things. He can do jazz, pop, funk, rock, r&b,and whatever else he decides he wants to do. I don't think that 'Rave' was so much an attempt at Prince trying to be commercial again, but him just being his musical self. I don't think Prince is the type to do music he doesn't feel just for the sake of popularity or money he does it because it reflects wherever he is in his soul at the time. I mean seriously if he was trying to get another shot at fame again he wouldn't have followed up 'Rave' with TRC as that would have been a move in the wrong direction! Prince is so many things musically. He's rock, r&b, jazz, sometimes spiritual, and yes even commercial when he feels up to doing it...(I mean this is a man who is no stranger to commercial success). Prince is the man. He's one of the most versatile artists around and I for one respect his efforts as an artist because I believe they come from his heart.

Got to agree! This album didn't have any promotion when it came out and Prince was onto his next project by then anyway. It got kind of buried and it's only the fans that know about this gem.

I totally agree with U about RAVE. I just love it. Mainly bcause it is so POP. When it came out i was so sickandtired of dull FUNK like NPS, and i was really glad to have an album FULL OF GREAT POP SONGS! I listen to it a lot...

Dont agree so much with GB... but i do like it also, well some song at least.

It's funny you guys are talking about "Rave Un2". I HATED that CD so much when it came out. I was so disappointed, since I was hoping for a return to the glory days (mid 80's). I remember popping it in my CD player for the first time, all excited to her the song "Rave" (loved the version on Small Club), and then I heard it...I couldn't believe my ears. Just thought it was complete crap. The whole thing just sucked...why the hell did he remake "Everyday is a Winding Road"...man I just wanted to vomit after hearing that one. I listened to it twice before selling it on Half.com.

HOWEVER, about two weeks ago I was going through my blank tapes and found a copy of "Rave" (why I taped it was beyond me). I popped it in and, to my suprise, actually thought it wasn't that bad. I have been listening to it since then and am particularly impressed with TGRES, So Far So Pleased, Man 'o' War, Baby Knows, Strange But True, & Pretty Man. Everyday is a Winding Road is still a giant turd of a song, and "Rave" the song is still a disappointment, but now, at least, I can listen to it without wanting to break the stereo.

As for Graffiti Bridge...never hated that one...there is some really good stuff on there. Elephants & Flowers is one of my favorite songs...period. He shouldn't have touched "We Can Funk" though...the '86 version is SO much better.

I think Come, Chaos, NPS (this one grew on me...sounds great with headphones), & The Vault are the most misundrstood albums. I listen to all of those on a pretty regular basis, don't know why they get slammed so bad.
