musicology nad 3121 werent "commercial"? they sounded commercial to me... what prince really should be doing is touring and immediatly releasing cd's of that nights concert. and introduce songs live...cause thats when his songs dont suck, when they are live...and if they catch on and folks love a tune then call up susan rogers to assist in cleaning up the live version...not re-recording. just fix em up like she did for Purple Rain. Space for sale...

Prince should tour as a opening act instead of a headlining act to increase his exposure to the public.
He should open up a few shows for Ashley Simpson, Justin Timberlake, and DREAM, for starters.

Music and the videos suck these days. If Prince really wanted the black sweat video to be a hit (for today's young people) he would:
A few sports cars Bling A pool party at a mansion At least 50 women Lil' Jon Cadillac Escalade It is all about materialism these days with music. People dress/act/drive what they see in the videos. Sadly I haven't seen any guys with the Prince look lately 'A pillow covered in all our tears'

P doesn't need to look for hits. He has enough talent to offer something for everyone. He's in a transitional period where he's trying to develope and control his art and keep us happy. Anytime he tours you know he has a loyal following. Current big acts like Springsteen and Mariah Carey have half full venues and cancelled dates. Madonna has resorted to rapper moves and "body on a cross" displays (deja vu) which at her age is undignified. On the other hand, the Stones, with Keith Richards looking like he died last week and Mick ready to be embalmed,(thanks to all the partying) haven't had a big hit in years. They're doing well on sheer talent. They still have sold out concerts. Prince, in his Vegas concert DVD was sophisticated, mature, and the focus was on his amazing karma and musicianship. I don't want to see him in a thong and overcoat nor doing splits. He's evolving. There's lots more to come!

I'm not going to start shoveling dirt on 3121 just yet; there's still a lot of time left (especially if there's a tour), so I'll be patient. I AGREE WITH YOU 100% PRINCE SHOULD RELEASE "LOVE" AS HIS NEXT SINGLE WITH A SLAMMING VIDEO. THAT SHOULD PUT SOME LIFE BACK INTO 3121! I'M NOT SHOUTING, JEEZ!

People should never let age stop them from being as wild as they want to be. However, I do understand fully what you are saying and agree. Prince has real talent and a large loyal following. He could never put out another album and still sell out venues. I hope he never stops releasing albums though. . . [Edited 7/5/06 8:05am] Andy is a four letter word.

He needs to consider collaborating with more popular artists especially those who claim to be influenced by him (and there are more than a few). Something where all he needs to do is sing and play lead guitar. It would be cool to see him and Lenny Kravitz onstage together. Or him and Gwen Stefani or Jill Scott. The problem is that if Prince really wanted hits, he could have them. He constantly proves that he has the talent to do so. He just refuses to adjust. He wants the industry to come to him. Understandable given his talents, but the industry doesn't need him like it once did. He needs to regroup his energies and play the game for a minute if he wants to compete. Look at Madonna. She flows with the trends and found her audience. Sure she more club now than anything else but she has hits. I think the neo-soul crew is Prince's best audience and he should work that angle.

Now THAT would drive me into a dark cave in terms of Prince's music. He needs 2 do what he is doing and leave the lessor talents 2 thier own devices.

Whatever he wants to do will work out nicely, I’m sure. Besides, he may not have a radio hit with Black Sweat, but he does have a video hit. That’s a big deal, because it’s all about exposure, and that song got a lot of it. He managed to do so without any help from radio.
I also did some checking and found out that the song did well internationally. Black Sweat actually went top 40 in Italy, Japan, Greece, Latvia, and Spain. It was in the top 100 for at least a month in Switzerland, Germany, and the Netherlands. Whatever he does, he’s got nothing to worry about.

I second this. Not very many artists of the past have the huge fanbase that Prince currently has. And at the rate he is going, he is still acquiring even more despite the fact that most radio stations continue to play his songs that are from back in the day.

And lets not start the Pharrell copied Prince first routine... The point is there was nothing innovative about "Black Sweat"... and thats what folks want to get from a new Prince record... Songs like "7" "When Doves Cry" TMBGITW" didnt sound like other tunes when they dropped... "Black Sweat" does.

I actually heard Black Sweat at a club and it sounded very good. The only part that messed it up was the chorus, because well, IMO it sounds corny as hell. This single was just screaming for a good remix because the beat was slammin.
