Yes, it's true. I've finally made my decision. Prince's music used to be an inspiration to me, but now, well, I'm ashamed to say it frightens me. Last week some guy played "When Doves Cry" and I shot him.

First Some Background:

When I was a teenager I began to dabble in the occult.(as many teens do). They were good times for me, and I remember now with great fondness those balmy Summer nights, when the heat was in the air, and we used to drag terrified goats to the top of Wishmake Hill and sacrifice them to the Great Lord Satan. I can't help but shed a tear of sadness that those hazy, crazy nights have gone; that I've somehow lost that innocent thrill of stealing a child and burning it on an altar of blood. But hey, we've all been there (as most teenagers have)

Sometimes, in the midst of all this youthful experimentation I would hear voices in my head. Sometimes it would just be Freaky Jones, the little green goblin who has been with me since I was only knee high to a grasshopper, but other times I didn't know whose the voice was.

I heard it though, wondering whether it was the voice of God (I later learned it was actually known as "The voice mental people hear"). It said to me "You shouldn't be doing that", "It's wrong", "Never run with scissors", and "Get out of my garden"

Although my memory is not so clear these days; that last one might have been my parent's neighbour.

Now fast forward to the 80's :

I have just gotten married, and most of my hair has grown back after the shock treatment. I became fascinated by other people's faith and the diversity of religion in the world, so I travelled from country to country speaking to many different people from many different cultures to find the root to it all, to find what it was that drove people to have faith at all.

Oh wait, no, sorry, I got some books from Amazon.

One of the books that is especially signficant here is "The man in the Rainbow Coat tried to touch me" by Maurice Micklewhite. In it, Maurice tells how one day, when he was in the park, a man in a rainbow coat offered him a humbug. This man had taken the rainbow, God's promise to the world that he would never again attempt to destroy mankind, and he had made it into a coat to wear while he went looking for "no hair"s.

Now I'm not saying Prince is looking for "no hair"s, but I think he needs to look more closely at the symbolism he uses. I read many books, including "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr Seuss, which was a little far fetched.

And now to recent years :

When I heard that Prince was studying with Jehovas Witnesses it bothered me. My Uncle George became a Jehovas in 1986, and since then he just likes to dip his face in his soup and giggle.

Then comes the Rainbow Children. It's title surprised me. I was expecting "Crystal Ball II". My husband came in from work and sat with me listening to the lyrics. "Like I always said, Prince is one peanut smarty crunch !" he laughed as he usually does, then went out in the car to cruise the neighborhood for hookers.

I listened to Rainbow Children once, but I haven't been able to listen to it again. It's shit. But apart from that, I find the lyrical content so offensive. I was sitting here listening to my Eminem Cds, and laughing knowingly as once again he screamed about raping and killing his wife, and I thought, Prince, you need to get back to good clean wholesome lyrical content.

I dont know where Prince will go now, what roads he will travel, and maybe he'll end up back on old Wishmake Hill, laughing innocently like I did before the treatment, back when I could eat a Rolo without it shooting out and hitting someone in the eye.

For me, I have to leave. The Org has got downright nasty of late, full of really nasty boys who want to break my daisy chain and kick my sandcastle.

So I'm leaving.
