There are some really strong songs spread out over the disc, but it's an incredibly bad album. It's a transparent desperate effort to make a commercial comeback, and there's zero flow to the album.

That sums up my feelings about Rave, as well, except leave it to "The Artist" to actually try and make a commercial comeback by having "Prince" produce the album. Like, hello...duh, Prince was, like, dead.

Special guest stars, you say? Better yet, let's make it so you have to listen real hard to tell if they're singing on the track. Wait, but don't do that to Chuck D., since he's the most popular of all the guests on the album.

Rave is an album that I have never been able to listen to straight through. It's a skip-button-fiesta!

I rate it 7/10, far better than the terrible NPS( 3/10).

His worst album is Musicology, closely followed by Rave and NPS. I dont know how to seperate NPS and Rave... NPS has Mad Sex, and that in itself redeems it for me. Rave has Strange but True... Musicology has absolute tosh from beginning to end.

how about y'll?

p.s is the npgmc version any better?

I think its a good CD. Not as much funk, but its a good CD to relax too. My CD has Prettyman, and my kids love it!!!

The mystery for me was the seconds of silence for Miles, why in 1999 and not before? why not releasing the tribute song that he wrote then?

Ha! Really. Rave was never ahead of its time. It always sounded like typical overproduced 90's Prince when it was released, and it only gets worse with time.

Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic is classic Prince, but i was put off as soon as he started rapping about trends following him like Israelites to the Red Sea. A rather overblown statement of what is true to an extent, but then probably more people watch American Idol than read the Bible. The Greatest Romance is smooth as f*ck, i love it, but having passed on the Hot Tangerine i'm So Pleased it's been just another manic monday So Far. If anything, i know the Sun Moon and Stars are infinitely more beautiful than the Winding Road and the Man O' War whose Baby Knows that they just Can't Trust him to play his Silly Games Anymore. yet it's Strange But True that Wherever You Go, and Whatever You Do, he'll always be a Pretty Man.

Rave had some really good trax, but it also had some weak ass songs. It was an album that had potential but in the end was too inconsistant.

Top songs:
So Far So Pleased
The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
I Love You But I dont Trust You Anymore
Tangerine
Prettyman

Rave is okay. It's one of my least listened to albums. I don't like the first three songs (Rave, Greatest Romance, and Undisputed) but I can tolerate Hot Wit U. So far So Pleased is fine, and I like Tangerine-- I know it's not really a complete song. The Sun, Moon, and Stars is cool until he turns into Shabba/Shaggy/Sean Paul. I'm kind of indifferent to Baby Knows but I like Everyday is a Winding Road (apparently not enough to play the album smile ).

Man O' War is good but the only gem on the original album is I Love U, But I Don't Trust U... Strange But True is a keeper and I love Beautiful Strange. Silly game on the other hand is an embarassment and belonged on NPS.

It says something about the album when he closes with Wherever U Go. Historically Prince finishes strong but this song was just mediocre-- pleasant enough but mediocre. That's probably why he threw Pretty Man on there. Pretty Man is good but by then it's too late to salvage the album.

In this case we could judge the proverbial book by its cover. When I saw that hideous blue pajama/sweat suit outfit and his hair I had a bad feeling.

did i post on this already?

if not, then the answer is no and yes.

NO, i don't like the arista version of 'rave' at all. i'd say it's my least favorite prince album.

and

YES, he pulled his fat out of the fire with the NPGMC remixed version, proving that some turds can indeed be polished.

It's decent, like disk 4 to Emancipation. The biggest problem is it's uninspired, and we all hoped for big things from Prince in 1999.

With a title like that, it should have been hot. As is, it's just a regular collection of kind of depressing songs.

Musicology is much the same, but with the fat trimmed. 3121 is like Musicology, but the music sounds more inspired to me.
